POLICE BRIEFS Bike stolen from yard EXETER — On Oct. 28 at 1:30 p.m. a woman report- ed the theft of her son's bike from the yard of Exeter Public School. The theft of the male's black 18 speed Supercycle occurred sometime between 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27. The bike had been left unlocked sitting outside the school. Rainy weather doesn't dampen Harvest Fest By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON - At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton Oct. 24, Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated the holy eucharist and Christine Downey gave the message about the love of Christ. Rev. Sim introduced Sister Margaret who attended and spoke briefly. Cathy Urquhart read the lessons. The Perth Deanery Anglican Church Women fall meeting was hosted by St. Paul's ACW at the church in Kirkton Oct. 21 com- mencing with a dessert social. Rev. Sim celebrated the holy eucharist and the lessons were read by Kathy and Emma Blackler. A short program followed when Rosemary Schaefer spoke about the Quilt Project for Breast Cancer in which she is involved. The project has been very successful and has quickly caught on across Canada. A video of the work involved was also shown and there was a display of quilts and wall hangings. All pro- ceeds from the project go to the Cancer Society to help patients where the funds are raised. Perth Deanery ACW representative Hazel Davis of Saintsbury was present and gave a deanery update. St. Paul's ACW president Verna Blackler assisted with the registra- tion and thanked everyone for attending. The annual traditional turkey supper was well attended at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Lucan on Oct. 27. Sympathy extended A former Granton area resident Gordon Hodgins, son of the late Norman and Velma Hodgins, died at Cornwall Community Hospital at age 65 years on Oct. 13. The funeral service was held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, South Lancaster on Oct. 16. Sympathy is extended from the Granton commu- nity to family members. At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Oct. 31 the Food Grains service was held. Lay Pastor Val Hodgins entitled the message 'Food for the World' and the lessons were from Isaiah 58 and Luke 19. Elizabeth Herbert lit the Christ Candle. Jerry Martens, chairperson of the local Food Grains Project attended and gave a brief update. About 50 persons enjoyed the Oct. 30 noon Harvest Fest and Barbecue hosted at the Martens farm where the corn was grown. However, the weather disrupted plans for some outdoor activities. At St. Paul's Anglican Church, Kirkton on All Saints Sunday, Oct. 31, Christine Downey assisted with the service and Brent Blackler read the lessons.
