At right,the hospital auxiliary's first Rummage Sale was in May 1953 at the Exeter Co- op building, raising $591.After moves to the Legion in 1954 and the old arena in 1975, the Rummage Sale has been at the Rec Centre since 1977.A mainstay since the begin- ning has been Exeter's Laura Sillery, now 92, who took her usual spot at last week's Rummage Sale in the yard goods section. She said she enjoys volunteering for the aux- iliary and meets many friends. She intends to keep volunteering as long as she's able. Mary Beth Wilson from Brucefield. Pastor Elly Van Bergen was in Brucefield as it was Pulpit Exchange. Happy Birthday was sung to Anna Keys. Happy 80th Anna! Rev. Wilson opened with the Gather to Worship and the Gathering Prayer. The choir favoured everyone with an anthem. Next Sunday is the fifth Sunday and will be Blue Hymnary Sunday with lots of music. This will be in Goshen. Fri., Oct. 29 there will be a Community Skate event from 7:30-8:30 p.m. in VARNA Zurich sponsored by the Zurich and area ministeri- al. Everyone welcome. Please bring food dona- tions for Blessings Food Bank Sat., Oct. 30 there will be a Male Choir's (over 100 voic- es) Mini Sing at 7:30 p.m. at the North Street United Church in Goderich. Proceeds for Child Abuse. Tickets are $10. Halloween party Sat., Oct. 30 from 7-10 p.m. at the Stanley Complex in Varna there will be a Halloween party. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Cost will be $15 per family and please bring cookies and/or squares. Bring dec- orated pumpkins for judg- ing. Come on out and enjoy the haunted trail, costume parade, prizes, NEWS hotdogs and lots of spooky fun. Move and groove The Ontario Early Years Centre offers move and groove every Friday morn- ing from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Varna Complex. All children 0-6 (must be accompanied by an adult) are welcome to join. Fri., Oct. 29 there will be a cos- tume parade so wear your costume. The Five Alive are host- ing a dance at the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton with the Ken Scott Band on Nov. 6 from 8:30-12:30. Get your tickets for $8 in advance or $10 at the door. Peace of Mind Inspection Provide Written Report on Findings POLICE BRIEFS Break-ins EXETER — On Oct. 15 at 2:30 p.m. the OPP was contacted about the first of two break-ins in Exeter. The officer went to a Huron Street resi- dence to learn someone entered an unlocked garage overnight and walked away with $750 worth of Motocross equipment. A pair of regal blue Fox Motocross pants, a jer- sey, gloves and two black, white and silver HJC helmets were stolen from the garage. Earlier the same residence was affected when someone entered the garage and stole the dirt bike from the home. Then on Oct. 18 at 8:45 p.m. a resident reported a young male leaving his backyard. The man checked his backyard and discovered the young male had entered an unlocked shed on Wellington Street and walked away with several bottles of beer. Huron OPP is continuing its investigation.
