The offi- cer learned that over the course of the summer a female youth had entered a hardware store in South Huron and obtained property by charging it to a family member's account. Another family member came across the property late in August and discovered what had happened. The total prop- erty obtained from the business was approxi- mately $574. As a result of the inves- tigation a 14 -year-old female youth has been charged with three counts of personation with intent to obtain property and three counts of theft under $5,000. She will attend court in Goderich Oct. 14. SOUTH HURON — Huron OPP is investigat- ing the theft of bikes from residences in South Huron over the past weekend. On Oct. 9 a citizen reported the theft of their son's bike from a carport on Thomas Street in Exeter overnight. Stolen was a silver Mongoose Free Spirit BMX stunt bike. Another report came in Oct. 10 at 10:30 p.m. when someone visiting a friend on Algonquin Drive in Huron Park had their bike stolen sometime between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Stolen was a black Laser 15 speed male's mountain bike from the side of the house. EXETER — On Oct. 3 at 11:30 a.m. the OPP was contacted about damage done to a vehicle on Gidley Street in Exeter. Someone threw a large piece of metal through the windshield of a Pontiac Fiero while the vehicle was sitting on top of a car trailer in the east end of the parking lot of South Huron District High School. Council updated on water questionnaire By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF VARNA — Bluewater Council received a progress report Oct. 12 on the Hensall water survey question- naire circulated to existing water customers in May. The questionnaire asked respondents to rank their preferences for the water supply alternatives proposed at a previous meeting. The four alternatives were: • Treat the existing water supply to reduce nitrate levels (OSTAR fundable); • Drill a new well and blend with the existing water supply to reduce levels (OSTAR fundable); • Bring in water from Lake Huron through a new pipeline with no subsidy (other than OSTAR); • Bring in water from Lake Huron through a new pipeline with a government subsidy (only if a 50 per- cent government grant is approved). The report prepared by B.M. Ross and Associates Limited said 378 questionnaires were mailed with a total of 81 responses received for a 21 per cent return rate. Of the 81 returns, four each were in favour of options one and two. Option three for Lake Huron water with no subsidy other than OSTAR received nine votes, while option four for Lake Huron water with 50 per cent govern- ment funding received 57 votes. Council is waiting to hear if any funding will be avail- able from the grant application submitted by the Lake Huron Water System before making a decision on the report. They anticipate hearing around the end of January. Public meeting There will be a public meeting Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. with the Bluewater Economic Development and Tourism Committee in Varna. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss a grant funding proposal to the Ontario Tourism Revitalization Program which would be a joint application with the city of London.
