Hensall Sherwoods defeat River Rats 5-1
GEORGIAN BAY — The Hensall Sherwoods defeated
the Georgian Bay River Rats by a score of 5-1, Saturday
night in Thornbury.
The win raises their early season record to 2-0-0-4.
Dave Farquhar opened the scoring for Hensall two
minutes into the game as he converted a breakaway
past the River Rat goalie. Jarrett Jeffrey and Jeff Glavin
assisted.
Ten minutes into the first Jeff Glover took a long
breakaway pass form JR Davies and made no mistake
beating the goalie.
Jared Bourne also assisted on the play. The first
ended 2-0 Hensall. There was only one goal in the sec-
ond.
Farquhar scored his second of the game as he went
hard to the net and put in a rebound of a Chris Kennedy
shot. Glover also assisted on the power play marker.
The River Rats made it 3-1 five minutes into the third.
Davies then scored on a breakaway on a repeat of the
play in the first as he took a long pass from Glover.
Sean McCann also assisted.
Jeffrey closed out the scoring as he beat the goalie
with a bullet slap shot from the top of the circle. Glavin
assisted on the play.
Newcomer Jay Evershed played steadily in his
Sherwood debut in goal.
The Sherwoods had 22 minutes in penalties and the
River Rats had 23 minutes.
Each team had two fighting majors.

The Sherwoods open their home schedule with the
Wingham Spitfires Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in
Hensall.
NOTES: The Sherwoods went with 14 skaters and two
goalies, as various players were away due to a variety of
reasons.
The defence of Mark Bell, Adam McCann, Andrew
Mauer, Mike Bowerman and Jared Bourne played
steady. Georgian Bay raised their 2003-2004 WOAA "A"
Championship banner prior to the game.
The Sherwoods knocked them to the "A" side last sea-
son in the opening round of the playoffs, sweeping the
best of five series.
The game threatened to get out of hand at times, as
Georgian Bay looked at times as though they were
interested in other things besides hockey.
Referee Dave Wahl kept the game from getting out of
hand and called the game with 18 seconds left in the
third.
The Stephen Township ladies slo pitch league
wrapped up their season recently after going unde-
feated all season and receiving trophies for the 'A'
championship as well as first place in league stand-
ings. Back L -R: Cecile Maes, Karen Schade, Melissa
