Parent/teacher open house at St. Boniface School Oct.19

ZURICH CORRESPONDENT
ZURICH - A lovely wedding was held for our niece
Chantel Gelinas and Jake Day on Oct. 2 in Dublin at St.
Patrick's Church by Father Charbonneau, followed
with dinner and reception at the Oakwood Inn, Grand
Bend. The bride is the daughter of Mozart and Julie
Gelinas of Listowel and the groom is the son
of Simon and Gloria Day of Grand Bend.
Ernst and Christa Ihrig of Hessenland are happy to
announce the arrival of their first grandchild.
Sebastian was born on Sept. 24 to proud parents Frank
and Elizabeth Ihrig of RR 2, Zurich.
The annual craft and bake sale at the Exeter Legion
will be held on Sat., Oct. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., plus
this year there will be a pennysale table. Everyone is
welcome.
Happy birthday to Jacob Rothenberg who was 14
years old on Oct. 1.
Edgar and Ann Steinbach recently returned from a
nice two-week vacation. They visited relatives in
Cavalier, North Dakota and Deloraine, Manitoba. They
also saw friends in Saskatchewan. The couple drove
back home via Northern Ontario. The leaves were
spectacular to see along the way and at Manitoulin
Island.
Happy 40th birthday wishes go out to Vicki
Ducharme on Oct. 3. A family celebration and dinner
were enjoyed Sunday. Did you see the big blue sign on
her front yard saying, "Vicki Rocks at 40!" complete
with bright coloured stones all over the grass?
A very informative Catholic Women's League deanery
meeting took place Sept. 29 in Dublin at St. Patrick's
parish hall which was very well attended by council
from various places. Those going from St. Boniface
CWL were president Joan Regier, along with Mary and
Rose -Marie Regier and Carmel Sweeney. Also, presi-
dent Dianne Tucker and Susan Nyenhuis from St.
Peter's Catholic Women's League at St. Joseph.
The youth group from St. Boniface School (Grades 5-
8) will hold their first meeting on Thurs., Oct. 7 in the
gym at 7 p.m. Parents are also invited to attend. Call
Dianne Miller at 236-4479 for more information.
David Mainse (of 100 Huntley Street) will be at the
Zurich Arena Complex from Oct. 22 to Oct. 24 each
evening at 7:30 p.m. And on Sunday morning services
at the Zurich Mennonite Church at 9 a.m. and 10:45
a.m. He will be speaking on the family.
Coffee and muffm time are being held again for the
winter months at the Zurich Emmanuel United Church
every Tuesday morning 10 to 11 a.m. with a free will
offering. Everyone is welcome to come out.
The Zurich Diners will be having their Thanksgiving
turkey dinner with all the trimmings this Wed., Oct. 6
at the Zurich Complex. Anyone wanting to join the
Seniors every Wednesday at 12 p.m., call Kay Hay at
236-4632 by noon on the Monday before, to add your
name to the list.
St. Peter's Lutheran Church will be having a special
German church service on Sun., Oct. 17 at 4 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
The Exeter Legion is having a harvest dance and din-
ner on Sat., Oct. 30 to Don Harvey's music. Cost is $20
which includes dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. and dance from
8 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Anyone wanting to go to the annual district #8
Agricultural Society dinner and meeting at the Hensall
Community Centre on Tues., Oct. 26 are to call
Margaret at 236-4130 by Oct. 10. Tickets are $20 a
person. Displays and social begins at 6:15 p.m. with
supper at 7 p.m.
There will be a parent/teacher open house at St.
Boniface on Oct. 19, which begins with mass at 5:30
p.m., followed by chili or pizza supper at the school
along with bake sale table and penny sale. Donations
and helpers are needed. All proceeds go towards new
playground equipment.
Our best wishes go out to Clem Regier as he is adjust-
ing to Queensway Nursing Home in Hensall.
This Fri., Oct. 8 the Bank of Montreal in Hensall will
be having a fundraising event for the food bank. They
will be selling hotdogs and drinks from 11 a.m. to 2
p.m., plus you can throw a pie at the bank manager.
All of this for only $5. So, come out and join the fun.
The next bus going to the Bank of Montreal in Hensall
is Wed., Oct. 13, 9:15 a.m. from Blue Water Rest Home
and 9:30 a.m. in Zurich at the Main Street blinking
light.
Congratulations to Darren Oesch and Alicia
VanderLoo who were married on Oct. 2 at St. Joseph's
Church in Clinton followed by dinner and reception
held in Varna at the Complex. The groom is the son of
Ron Oesch of RR 2, Varna.
Rob and Wendy Nye and two boys from California
spent most of last week in Zurich visiting her mother
Doreen Oesch at the Blue Water Rest Home and family
members in the area. They attended the wedding of
Darren and Alicia Oesch on Oct. 2.
There will be a Time, Talent and Treasure Auction at
the Recreation Centre in Exeter on Fri., Oct. 15 with
viewing at 4:30 p.m. and selling items will begin at
5:30 p.m. All proceeds will go to Community Living in
South Huron.
The London Area Convention for the Women's
Institute is being held in Holmesville at
the White Carnation on Wed., Oct. 5
with some going from the Zurich group along with
president Bridget Groot and district president Joan
Smith.
Have you got your Cash Calendar yet? Draws start
Nov. 1 daily till the end of February 2005. Tickets are
only $20 with lots of chances to win some money. They
are available around town or call Mary -Ann Craner at
236-7107. It is not too late to join the Blue Water
Skating Club for lessons at the Zurich Complex. Call
president Mary Becker at 237-3628 for information on
dates and prices. Remember there is a free try out day
at the arena Sat., Oct. 30 for all ages.
A musical comedy play called The Reeve's Dilemma
will be at Play House II in Grand Bend as a fundraiser
for the United Church on Fri., Oct. 22, Sat., Oct. 23 at 8
p.m., and on Sun., Oct. 24 at 2 p.m. Advance tickets are
now available at $15 adults and $10 students. Call 238-
8912.
The Lions Club is holding their next meeting at Erb's
Country Kitchen on Wed., Oct. 13, being the second
week of October. Dinner is at 7 p.m. Call lion John
Becker if you want to attend. More lions are needed;
both men and women are welcome.
ZURICH NEWS
Cheryl and Martin Gelinas, Francis and Cindy
Denomme along with family and friends from
Stratford, Mitchell, London, Lucan, Tillsonburg,
Goderich and Windsor (25 in all) spent Sept. 19 to 24
on vacation in Las Vegas. While there they enjoyed
great weather and took in a variety of entertainment
including stage shows, gondola rides at the Venetian
Hotel, roller coaster and amusement rides, horseback
riding and an authentic Hawaiian Luau.
There is an Oktoberfest community lunch Wed., Oct.
20, 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Grand Bend Adult
Day Centre, located at the Grand Bend Community
Health Centre, featuring barbecued sausage on a bun,
sauerkraut, apple crisp and root beer or non-alcoholic
beer. Delivery available, call 238-6289.
Jennifer Jeffrey, a native of Zurich, daughter of
Charlie and Barb Jeffrey and sister of Alan will be in
Kitchener, Oct. 3 to 10 playing for a spot on the
Canadian Women's Hockey Team. She is one of 40 girls
at this last hockey camp. During the course of the week
they will play Sweden and Russia in exhibition games.
Final cuts will be made and the team will go on to Lake
Placid, New York Nov. 10 to 14 to play the Four
Nations. And then off to Linkoping, Sweden in April,
2005.
Game times in Kitchener are as follows: Jennifer is on
the White Team. Wed., Oct. 6, 7:30 to 10 p.m.: White vs
Sweden. Thurs., Oct. 7, 7:30 to 10 p.m.: Red vs White.
Sat., Oct. 9, 7:30 to 10 p.m.: White vs Russia. Sun., Oct.
10, 12 noon: Bronze final; 3 p.m.: Silver and Gold.
All games to be played at the Kinsmen Arena,
Memorial Auditorium. Come out to the games and
show your support.

Ashley, Daemon and Ravyn are pleased to
announce the upcoming marriage of their parents,
Bobbi Meunier and Bill Vandeworp. The wedding
will take place Saturday, October 9, 2004 at the
Zion Lutheran Church in Dashwood, Ontario.
Following the ceremony, family and friends are wel-
come to celebrate at the Hensall Community Centre
for an open reception at 9 p.m.

Glen and Peggy Restemayer and Clarence and
Joan Regier are pleased to announce the forthcom-
ing marriage of their children, Tammy and Rob. The
wedding will take place on Saturday, October 9,
2004 at Zion Lutheran Church, Dashwood. Family
and friends will celebrate with a reception to follow
at South Huron Rec Centre.

ing marriage of their parents Colleen Marie Overholt
to Michael Anthony Cyr. Colleen is the daughter of
Helen Overholt and the late Garry Overholt. Michael
is the son of Marie Cyr -Whitney and the late Paul
Cyr. The wedding will take place at St. Boniface
