4-2 win for Hawks
over Lakers
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
ZURICH — The Exeter
Hawks remain undefeated
after three games as they
opened their home sched-
ule Friday with a 4-2 win
over the West Lorne
Lakers.
The win gives the
Hawks a 2-0-1 record
with a pair of games this
weekend, starting with a
visit from Lucan Friday
night at the South Huron
Rec Centre before the
Hawks visit Thamesford
Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
Brandon Wedlock con-
tinued to hit the net open-
ing the scoring midway
through the first period.
Larry Northover made it
2-0 before the end of the
period and the teams
exchanged goals in the
second period.
The Lakers cashed in
the first of two goals by
Luke Hopkins on a short
handed effort, while
Justin Young fired the
first of two for him on the
night to make it a 3-1
score at the end of two.
The Lakers made it
close at 7:07 of the third
with Hopkin's second of
the night but just 20 sec-
onds later Young restored
the two -goal margin
which was the way it
ended.
Chad Deman had a pair
of assists in the win with
singles coming off the
sticks of Justin LaPorte,
Jason Kerwin, Nathan
Regier, Jeff Smale and
Matt Vlemmix.
Cam Becker earned the
win facing 30 shots in net
for the Hawks who fired
46 the other way.
The Hawks were 0-2 on
the power play while
allowing one goal on
three West Lorne power
play chances.
Exeter coach Dave
Revington said at times
the team looked strong
during the game but not
as good at other times.
"It was kind of a non
spectacular game, but it's
very early. We're still try-
ing to figure things out as
we go along.
"Daryl Bourne looks
strong and Scott Davies of
the returning guys, along
with Chad Deman,
Vlemmix and (Jason)
Stuckless, those guys are
all going to be strong.
(Tim) Bilcke, who is 14
years old, is impressive.
He's got some work to do,
but he's going to be a
good hockey player."
