(photos/Mary Simmons) SaintsburyACW invited to fall meeting By Hazel Davis SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT SAINTSBURY - St. Patrick's Saintsbury Anglican Church Women have received their invitation to the Perth Deanery fall meeting to be held at SAINTSBURY NEWS St. Paul's, Kirkton with coffee, dessert and registration at 6:30 p.m., holy eucharist at 7 p.m., followed by guest speaker, Rosemary Schaefer (her topic: The Quilt Project) on Thurs., Oct. 21. Recently Hazel Davis was invited to St. Paul's Cathedral for a reception and fundraiser for Aster Tsegage, a friend who has been the receptionist at the Diocesan Synod office in London since 1990 and will be retiring Oct. 8. Tsegage is giving up everything to return to her homeland of Ethiopia to work in the Gethsemane Orphanage run by the Sisters of Gethsemane. When she returns to Canada she will pursue her vocational calling. Each of her friends presented her with gifts of money for food and clothes and St. Patrick's ACW also contributed. We all wish her God's blessings as she begins her new life. Ron and Margaret Carroll and a number of area neighbours were guests Saturday at the wedding of Ryan Carroll and Lynn Cowdrey held at Lucan United Church with reception at the Lucan Community Centre. Lorne and June Daer of New Hamburg were Saturday dinner guests with Hugh and Hazel Davis and at 7:30 p.m. the Daers and Hugh Davis were guests at the Lucan Community Centre for a get- together with former Lucan-Ilderton Jets and to watch the new, revived Lucan-Ilderton Jets hockey team (WOAA senior league) play their first game of the season against Wingham Spitfires. It was a won- derful evening of visiting and reminiscing. Thanks to Rob Andrews for remembering everyone. Hugh and Hazel enjoyed lunch on Thursday with Ralph and Joyce Simpson. St. Patrick's will celebrate Evening Prayer on Thanksgiving weekend. Congratulations to John and Joyce Dickey who along with 16 family members completed the walk or run on Sunday for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation from Exeter raising $2,000. Family members were from London, Centralia, Exeter, Arkona and Lucan. Congratulations for a job well done. Out of the Blue... The Bluewater Recycling Association is proud to report that out of the bluebox you have managed to reduce the waste generated in the area by over 70%. As a matter of fact, the Association has been recognized by the Recycling Council of Ontario each of the last seven years for having the highest waste diversion in the Province.
