TJ's Family Billiards brings enjoyment to Exeter
By Scott Nixon

EXETER — With the
weather turning colder,
now might be a good time
to brush up on your pool
playing skills.
Terry Haugh and Janice
Regier, co-owners of TJ's
Family Billiards at 63
Main Street opened their
business May 1. After a
solid first month, Haugh
said the summer was
slow, which is usual for
pool halls, but business
has started to pick up
again. Both Haugh and
Regier are encouraging
adults and seniors to

check out TJ's and give it
a chance. As they point
out, TJ's isn't like your
stereotypical darkly -lit
pool hall from the past;
the inside is brightly -lit
with fresh paint, trim and
decorations. There are
nine pool tables, two
snooker tables, a juke box,
video games and a snack
bar which includes lunch
specials. Students can also
play any table at lunch for
$1 per game.
Players can use coin-
operated tables or rent
tables by the hour. Of the
two 5' by 10' Brunswick
snooker tables, Haugh and
Regier have an 80 -year-
old table.
Haugh and Regier dis-
cussed opening their own
business for a couple of
months, before deciding to
open. Renovations took
about a month and both
are enjoying it.
"I love it," Regier says.
She worked at South
Huron District High School
in the cafeteria for 23
years and loves being her
own boss. In addition to
working at TJ's, Haugh is
still head custodian at the
high school.
He says he first wanted
to open the business to
give the youth of the area
something to do and to
keep them off the streets.
Now with youth, men's,
ladies and seniors leagues
forming at TJ's, Haugh
and Regier want to see
more adults getting
involved.
Regier says a billiard
business in the area was
lacking before TJ's opened
— she said some people
were driving down to
London to play pool. Most
of TJ's business has been
local, although some out-
of-towners have also
stopped in.
TJ's is open from 11
a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday
through Thursday, and
from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Friday and Saturday.
While the business is nor-
mally closed Sundays, it is
available for party rentals.

The sweetest part of it all
was the community support.
Thank you for buying Smile Cookies. Through your
healthy appetites we were able to raise money in
support of the Huron -Perth School Nutrition
Partnership, a local school breakfast program for
children in Exeter. Just goes to show how a good deed
can be a real treat.
