Oct. 8 By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - Varna wel- comes Print & Design Solutions to the business community. Terri Louch (daughter of George and Sylvia) brings YARN the digital portion of her company into the Varna Country Store, sharing the space with Sandra Turner. Print & Design offers solutions for all your design and/or printing requirements. Louch caters to small business- es as well and believes that personal service is the only way to grow a successful business. Louch and her daughter look forward to becom- ing part of the Varna community and helping with printing needs. Heather Laurie provid- ed the musical prelude at Varna church on Sunday followed by Pastor Elly Van Bergen with the Welcome A NEWS and the Call to Worship. The choir's gift of music was Whispering Hope. Anniversary Sunday was celebrated. It has been 105 years since the building of our church by the Presbyterian congre- gation and 79 years since the union of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches forming the United Church of Canada. Pastor Van Bergen's message was on `Mustard Seed Power'. The choir sang He Touched Me and Lord Build Me a Cabin. A special memorial dedication was presented by clerk of the session, Sharon Chuter, dedicat- ing the new carpet in the sanctuary in memory of Bert Coleman, Wilfred Chuter, Mabel Reid and Beatrice Taylor. Heather Laurie shared her gift of music during the offer- ing. The Stephenson Steps completed their walk for the cure of breast cancer and raised $850 and would like to thank everyone who supported them. Thurs., Oct. 7 Varna UCW will meet at 8 p.m. at the Varna church. Community food advisors Village -wide decorating contest By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL - At Hensall United Church the greeter was Ross Riley with Bill Gibson and Les Hills receiving the offer- ing. The organist was Agnes Bray. Pastor Fred Darke conducted the com- munion service assisted by Cecil Pepper, Ross Kercher, Jerry Traquair, Les Hills, and Steven Troyer. The Christ Candle was lit by Kathy Mann. Maim also read the Scripture. Pastor Darke's message: The Bag Lady. Denise Troyer and Mona Alderdice were the nursery attendants. Rev. Gwen Brown was the guest min- ister and also conducted communion service at Carmel Presbyterian Church. Rev. Brown was assisted by Robert HENSA Taylor and Al Hoggarth. Joyce Pepper was the organist with Hoggarth and Harry Smith receiving the offering. The Bank of Montreal will host a hot- dog and drink lunch on Oct. 8 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in aid of the food bank. An added bonus is the chance to throw a cream pie at the branch manager—help us cream hunger. The deadline to register for the annual village Halloween decorating contest is Oct. 22. Call 262-2715 to register. There are separate categories for residences and businesses. The top three winners in each category will receive prizes of $25, $20, and $15. This event is sponsored by the Hensall and Community Horticultural Society. LL NEWS will be demonstrating how to use some unusual vegetables. Goshen UCW and visitors are wel- come! Fri., Oct. 8 the teens youth group (for all teens 14 and up) will meet in the Brucefield Church at 7:30 p.m. Sun., Oct. 10 is Thanksgiving Sunday and communion will be celebrated. There will be a special drive for the food bank and everyone is asked to bring items. Oct. 13 is the Bayfield thankoffering at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is wel- come. Deb Siertsema will be showing slides from Nicaragua. Goshen anniversary service will be Oct. 17. Varna Crokinole Club begins for the season on Tues., Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. in the Varna church. Anyone interested in playing crokinole can come out that night or phone 233-7443 for more information. The club is always looking for more players. Come on out and enjoy. Goshen fall supper tick- ets are available at $11 for 5 and 6:30 p.m. Beat- ings on Oct. 27.
