VARNA - Katherine Harding was
honoured with a bridal shower at
the Community Bible
Church on Sept. 21 prior to
her marriage in Toronto on
Oct. 9.
Edward Klassen, harpist, speaker
and folk artist gave a very entertain-
ing performance at the Granton -
Wesley United Church on Sept. 24.
Clandeboye Women's Institute
enjoyed an outing to Sparta on Sept.
8. After explaining the various nov-
elty shops there, they had lunch at
the Sparta Inn.
UCW meeting
Granton Wesley UCW Unit 4 met

at the church on Sept.14. President
Marilyn Humphrey read the
Scripture lesson from Exodus and
gave a meditation 'Holy Ground' fol-
lowed by prayer. Rilla Bakker read
some excerpts
from the
Langford-
Westman family tree history book
which included some interesting
facts about two homes in the com-
munity. Humphrey read a story,
'More Heart than Tomatoes'.
Bettie Dann concluded the pro-
gram with an article from the
Observer entitled 'Why a good
smack isn't', pertaining to the disci-
pline of children. A discussion fol-
lowed and the meeting was closed
with the benediction. Humphrey

Church services
At the Granton -Wesley United
Church on Sept. 26, lay pastor Val
Hodgins entitled the message 'Some
people just don't get it'. The lessons
were from Jeremiah 32, 1 Timothy 6
and Luke 16. Meredith Dodds lit the
Christ Candle.
At St. Paul's Anglican Church in
Kirkton on Sept. 26, Rev. Dalice Sim
celebrated the Holy Eucharist and
the message was about fulfilling
God's love in the world by caring for
others. Christine Downey assisted in
the service and Bill Schaefer read
the lessons.
The Harvest Thanksgiving service
is scheduled for next Sun., Oct. 3 at
9:15 a.m.
EXETER — Huron OPP
has laid charges against
a woman in Exeter after
numerous calls of van-
dalism were proven
false.
On Sept. 17 OPP offi-
cers responded to a call
of a fire at an apart-
ment complex located
on the Main Street of
Exeter. The officers
found a fire had taken
place in the bathroom of
the apartment. The 31 -
year -old woman who
was having problems
with local youths had
reported that someone
had forced open the
bathroom window and
started the fire.
Officers examined the
scene and found some
discrepancies. Further
conversation with the
woman led police to
believe others had not
caused the damage.
According to police,
officers responded to
numerous calls to the
residence to investigate
reports of racial harass -
