POLICE BRIEFS SOUTH HURON - On Sept. 25 shortly after mid- night an OPP officer was at the north end of Exeter when a southbound Mercedes Benz was seen travelling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was travel- ling through a control traffic light intersection at speeds indicated above 100 km/h in a 50 -km/h zone. The officer followed the vehicle and observed the driver pass two vehi- cles on the right side in the next couple of blocks. The officer activated the cruiser roof lights, but instead of stopping the driver turned off on a side street and attempted to lose the officer by driving down several side streets. The driver turned down a dead end street, drove across a lawn and side- swiped a Hydro trans- former before coming to a stop. The 20 -year-old driver of London has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehi- cle and flight from a police officer. He will attend court in Exeter Nov. 25.
