In the 2-2 tie with Curringa Exeter was ahead at half time 2-0 with both goals scored by Tony Vandenheuvel. But the second half saw Curringa score on a penalty shot and minutes later the score was tied 2-2. Exeter pressed at the end but couldn't get the winner. The game was probably the roughest of the year with numerous yellow cards given. In the 3-0 win at home against Ingersoll, Tony Van Mierlo beat two defenders to score the first goal. The second half was the Peter Hakvoort show scoring two goals off long dashes down the left side. Exeter played probably its best game of the year with Ian Chisholm and Trevor McGregor play- ing strong games in the stopper and sweeper positions respectively. Ingersoll pressed hard but due to Exeter's close man to man coverage their chances were limited. Goalie Colin Coburn played well with good anticipation. Exeter finished the season with six wins, 11 losses and two ties for 20 points good enough for 10th place out of 14 teams. They scored 35 goals, let in 46 and had two shutouts. It was a fairly successful season except for the six game losing streak and all the players enjoyed the year and are looking forward to next season. The Masters consisted of goalie Coburn, defenders Ron Reymer, Jed DeJong, John Muller, Joe Laurie, Alex Kollias and John Vanderburgt. Midfield consisted of Pat Donnelly, Charlie Wise, Dick Lord, Brian Westlaken, Doug Hocking, Matt Muller and Gerald Weersink. The forwards were led by leading scor- ers Van Mierlo and Vandenheuvel. Hakvoort, Hubert Huccius and Roland Juhnke made up the rest of the attacking crew. The team expresses a special thanks to Lord for managing the team and numer- ous others for the day to day activities and festivals of the Exeter Centennial Masters soccer club It also thanks McGregor in making a pressure putt in the 18th hole of Ironwood eliminating the responsibility of having to buy for Hubert and Tony. Hawks split two on weekend By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER - The Exeter Hawks opened their defence of their Junior D title with a pair of games on the weekend, starting with a 4-2 loss in Mitchell Friday night before taking their first win of the sea- son Sunday with a 3-1 victory in Parkhill. The Hawks had several new faces in the lineup including Jamie Wolfe, Nathan Regier, Jeff Smale, Tim Bilcke, Jason Kerwin, Justin Young and Tony Regier. Returning from last year's champi- onship team are Darcy McCutcheon, Adam Hartman, Scott Davies, Joe Nesbitt, Jason Stuckless, Chad Deman, Dan Moir, Larry Northover, Matt Vlemmix, Justin LaPorte, Brandon Wedlock, Justin Hayter and Cam Becker. Mitchell took an early lead Friday, scoring just over a minute into the first period before Wedlock tied it with an unassisted shorthanded effort three minutes later. Just under halfway through the period Wedlock put Exeter in front with his sec- ond of the game but Mitchell replied two minutes later to even the score. It was all Exeter would get for the night as Mitchell fired a pair in the sec- ond period to take a 4-2 lead they wouldn't surrender. In net for Exeter was Cam Becker, fac- ing 28 shots on the night. Picking up assists in the loss were McCutcheon and Nathan Regier, each with one. The Hawks notched their first win of the season Sunday, as they scored a goal in each period on the way to the 3-1 vic- tory. Nathan Regier put Exeter ahead to stay at 7:55 of the first before putting them up 2-0 at 12:25 of the second. Jamie Wolfe added an insurance marker at 11:10 of the third before North Middlesex broke Justin Hayter's shutout. He faced 25 shots. Picking up assists in the win were Scott Davies with a pair, and singles from Wolfe, McCutcheon, Nesbitt and Jason Stucldess. The Hawks will be in Zurich Oct. 2 to face the West Lorne Lakers before their home opener Oct. 8 against Lucan. Exeter will visit Thamesford Oct. 9 at 8:30 p.m. Dann invited to Hall of Fame dinner GRAND BEND - Five Pin Bowling Hall of Fame member Ron Dann of Grand Bend has received an invitation to attend the 32 annual Hall of Fame Award Dinner honouring inductees to the Five Pin Bowling Hall of Fame Nov. 6 at the Hamilton Entertainment and Convention Centre.
