The White Squirrel portion of the Exeter Fall Fair presented a show by the
Muskoka Wildlife Centre, during which audience members had the chance to see
a great -horned owl, a red fox, a snapping turtle, a (de -scented) skunk and a porcu-
pine, held here by Wildlife Centre employee Jody Kocsis.The centre is located
between Orillia and Gravenhurst.
Exeter Fall Fair: An event to remember

EXETER - What a weekend!
The weather was great all
three days. Everyone had a
wonderful time at the 150th
Exeter Fall Fair.
Friday events
The town crier opened the 150th
Fall Fair to a large crowd in the audi-
torium. Master of Ceremonies for the
evening was Bob Heywood. Greetings
given from South Huron Mayor Rob
Morley, District 8 Agricultural
Director Alfred Young and Homecraft
Director Robina Alexander and MPP
Carol Mitchell for Huron Bruce.
Mitchell, on behalf of the agricultur-
al minister, presented the Exeter
Agricultural Society with a beautiful
bronze plaque which will proudly be
displayed at the South Huron
Recreation Centre.
Former queens and ambassadors
were present. First queen Marilyn
Johns Eagleson 1966; 2003 ambas-
sador Silvana Roduner. Past presi-
dents, directors and District 8 mem-
bers were invited to attend the 150th
Fair.
Awards presented
Barb Down, school division, pre-
sented awards to Top Girl Janelle
Clarke with runner-up Alana
Hodgert. Top Boy was Andrew
Hodgert, with Brandan Willis and
Richard Hern tieing for runner-up.
Total entries for the school division
were 1477—up 300 entries compared
to last year.
Kathy Bray and Linda Johns pre-
sented awards to Culinary Arts
Phyllis Parsons, runner-up Sheila
Miller; Junior Jessica Bray, runner-
up Alana Hodgert; Crafts & Hobbies
Rhea Greene, runner-up Shirley
Dawson; Flowers Peggy Brownlee,
runner-up Pat Down.

Entertainment for the evening was
the Piche Family from London. They
are a very musical, talented family.
2004 ambassador
The 2004 ambassador for the
Exeter Fall Fair is Ashley
Arnold, representing Darling's
Foodland with runner-up
Natasha Duckworth, represent-
ing In Style with Michelle.
Duckworth also received
the congeniality award pre-
sented by Cathy Seip.
In the arena
In the arena both Friday
evening and Saturday, fair-
goers could look at conces-
sions and agricultural displays or
take a chance at the Chinese auc-
tion. Children could enjoy different
fun events or look at the school sec-
tion. New and old exhibitors showed
their talents in the homecraft divi-
sion.
Floyd and Shirley Cooper and Bob
and Mabel Hern showed off their
antiques and were also dressed for
the era. The pet show was well
attended as everyone waited patiently
to see if their pet won a ribbon. Pets
included cats, dogs, guinea pigs,
chicken, hairless rat and rabbits or
you could see Kate Fletcher's famous
dog Blue. Tractor pull winners for
kids where Mathis Memmell, Andrew
Hodgert and Adam Renning
Saturday events
Thanks to Kristina Cowell and her
helpers for an excellent parade. Best
float decorated for 150th Fall Fair
theme was won by Floyd and Shirley
Cooper and family. Ellison Travel
won best business float. At the end of
the parade was Willis the white
squirrel with the former queens and
ambassadors.
The open light horse show had a
good showing. Haflinger horse show
had good showing with some new
entries. 4-H Calf Club
Achievement was held.
Horseshoe results: first
place Jack Snell and
Tony VanBoxtel; sec-
ond place Ed Bradley
and Gus Latulippe.
In ag. building
In the agricul-
tural building, you
could see a poul-
try display or
watch the sheep
show. This show
had a new breed
of sheep: multi-
coloured, thanks to
Jennie and Donald. Grand champion
ram Keith Tyndall; ewe Geo Woods;
best of flock Geo Woods & Keith
Tyndall. Goat Show: best of
doe/daughter show Greg Munday.
Best of doe of show and junior show-
manship Evan Klaver.
Did you get a chance to see the
exotic animals at the petting zoo?
Children could also enjoy the pony
rides and watch the animals.
Many ladies and gentlemen enjoyed
the 150 years of 'Farm to Formal
Fashion'. The show featured authen-
tic, borrowed clothes by serious local
collectors and from people with gar-
ments that had a story. MC was
Stephanie Mandzuik. South Huron
High School senior jazz band provid-
ed the music. Excellent job Debby
Wagler and crew.
Scarecrow competition winners
were as follows: first Jessica Bray;
second Erin Blanchard; third Heather
East; fourth Terri Lyons.
The Saturday evening dance was
well attended and everyone had a
great time.
Sunday events
The ecumenical service was well
attended with Call to Worship by Rev.
Lillian Wilton and the message
`Treasure Seekers' by Pastor Harry
Frielink.
South Huron idol contest winners
were as follows: up to 13 Matt Greer;
14 to 21 Kourtney MacDonald
Webster; over 21 Rob Brunault. The
first South Huron idol winner was
Kourtney MacDonald Webster.
Congratulations to everyone. You did
a great job!
Ontario Mini Rod Puller Association
did a great job created lots of noise.
The midway and McDonald's Sport
Zone were enjoyed by everyone all
weekend.
Thanks to the White Squirrel
Festival for children's events, magic
shows and Muskoka Wildlife Centre
nature shows.
Special note
The Exeter Agricultural Society
would like to thank everyone who
made the 150th Exeter Fall Fair an
event to remember. Everyone worked
very hard to make it the best. Special
thanks to Wayne and Dianne Shapton
and family, Brian Clarke and Barb
Down and family and Cathy Seip and
all the directors for a job well done.
Thanks also to the volunteers
because without you it would not be a
success.
