Zurich native to play on Team Canada women's hockey team

ZURICH - Sunday was a
beautiful day for the
Mother, Daughter and
Family walk for Heart and
Stroke fundraising event
held at Springbank Park
in London. Our team was
registered as Two Feet in
a Heart Beat and we col-
lected over $600. Door
prizes and refreshments
were handed out and a
clown was giving balloons
to the children. It was a
great day with many peo-
ple and a total of $55,000
raised.
Anyone wanting a ride
to the Bank of Montreal in
Hensall on Thurs., Sept.
30 are welcome. Be ready
to get on the bus at Blue
Water Rest Home and
Maple Woods before 9:15
a.m., and at Hay Mutual
Insurance corner by 9:25
a.m.

The family of Earl
Flaxbard helped celebrate
his 88th birthday on
Saturday with dinner at
Aunt Gussie's in Grand
Bend. A get-together was
held at his home in Zurich
after dinner. There was
also a surprise party on
Sept. 28 when a few
friends and neighbours
went over for cake.
Hubert and Marge
Schilbe returned last
Wednesday after visiting
for a week with Florida
friends in northern
Michigan. They also spent
the weekend in Mackinac
City and on the island.
Happy 35th birthday to
Beth Sweeney -Boyle on
Sept. 27. Following the
walk on Sunday, a family
get-together at Jack
Aster's in London was
enjoyed.

British Columbia is
presently visiting at the

Zurich Mennonite
Church
The Zurich Mennonite
Church is starting the fall
session of `Heart to Heart',
a multi -denominational
women's ministry every
Tuesday morning in
October and November
from 9:30 a.m. to noon.
Women of all ages are
welcome to attend. Faith
studies offered include Big
Girls Don't Whine,
Purpose Driven Life, the
Worn Out Woman and
Travelling Light. The elec-
tives this fall include holi-
day baking, crafting, and
exercise classes. Child
care is pro-
vided free.

The Zurich Mennonite
Church girls' club will be
starting on Thurs., Oct. 7
from 7 to 8:30 p.m. for
ages 8 to 11 years old.

A lovely retirement din-
ner was held for Dorothy
Dietrich at the Coral Reef
in Grand Bend on Sept. 21
with several co-workers
attending from the Blue
Water Rest Home.
Dietrich has worked at the
rest home for the past 36
years. She recently cele-
brated her 65th birthday.
Team Canada
women's hockey
Team Canada women's
hockey will be playing in
Kitchener from Oct. 3 to
11 against Sweden and
Russia. One of Canada's
players is Jennifer Jeffrey,
daughter of Barb and
Charlie Jeffrey in Zurich.

Catholic Women's
League
On Sept. 21, St. Boniface
Catholic Women's League
held their meeting which
began with a mass for
vocations at 6 p.m.
Following
mass a deli-
cious potluck
supper was enjoyed by 29
members and two priests.
President Joan Regier
thanked all those who
worked at the pie booth
on bean festival day and
sold quilt tickets.
The Right to Life Chain
will be held in Stratford on
Sun., Oct. 3 from 2 to 3
p.m. Deanery meeting will
be held in Dublin on
Wed., Sept. 29, with four
women from this parish
attending. The White
Ribbon Campaign is Oct.
16, 17, 23 and 24 at all
masses. Be sure to stop,
sign and donate in the box
provided. Plan to attend
the birthday party at the
Blue Water Rest Home on
Wed., Oct. 20 at 2:30 p.m.

Knights of Columbus is
having their progressive
euchre card party on the
fourth Tuesday of each
month starting Oct. 26 at
8 p.m. Cost is $3 at the
door and all are welcome

A Coffee Break forAlzheimer's
The 9th annual Alzheimer Society of Huron County Coffee Break was held Sept.
21. In Exeter, the effort was based in front of town hall on Main Street, where an
information booth was set up. Coffee was delivered to businesses on Main Street
in exchange of donations.Alzheimer Society fund development co-ordinator
Theresa Wilson said the Society is trying to raise its profile in Exeter and let peo-
ple know they serve the entire county. Last year's Coffee Break raised $15,000 in
the county, 90 per cent of which stays in Huron County; the remainder goes to
research.Wilson said it is estimated that 1,100 people in Huron County suffer
from Alzheimer's disease or other dementia.Above from left are Alzheimer

Society
The following items
were decided upon at the
directors meeting on Sept.
2. The 2005 fair theme
will be 'Clownin' Around'.
The next meeting will be
Thurs., Oct. 21, 8 p.m. in
the meeting room at the
Blue Water Community
Centre. Homecraft direc-
tors are asked to review
the prize list and make
changes with exhibits con-
nected to the new theme.
The Zurich Agricultural
Society's annual meeting
is Fri., Nov. 26.
Details will be discussed
at the Oct. 21 meeting.
The District 8 annual
dinner and meeting is to
be held on Tues., Oct. 26
in Hensall. Registration
and viewing of exhibits
and displays 6:15 p.m.
Catered meal at 7 p.m. a

The Ausable River Nomads recently erected a new entrance sign at Exeter's
Elliott Park.The Nomads, who started in 1971, are part of the Family Campers
and R.V.ers of North America., which has 32 affiliated clubs in Ontario.The
Ausable club has 17 families as members, stretching from London to Goderich
and Stratford. Pictured from left are club presidents Bill and Willie Yule of Lucan,
with the club's park committee members Iry Armstrong, Harry Dougall and
Stewart McLellan of Exeter.The Ausable River Nomads meet on the third
Thursday of each month at Caven Presbyterian Church.The group sponsors
Elliott Park with the Municipality of South Huron, which cuts the grass, trims the
trees and recently cleaned out the river bed. Campers staying overnight at the
park pay $5, and while there is no electricity, there is fresh water and a dump
station for RVers.The Nomads also tour places of interest such as the fire hall,
Iceculture and the Bluewater RecyclingAssociation.A non-profit organization,
the Nomads sponsor a child every year through the Huron Perth Children's Aid
