Sherwoods prepare
for new season
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
HENSALL — The
Hensall Sherwoods are
almost ready to open their
season which will begin
Oct 1 in Wingham.
The Sherwoods will
have a new head coach
behind the bench with
Jason McBride and Todd
McCann assisting.
McBride is taking over
from Randy Parker who is
assuming the general
manager position.
Parker said the
Sherwoods have most of
their players returning
from last year but have
around six to eight posi-
tions to fill.
"The practices seem to
have been going good and
he's had some good guys
to follow when he was
assisting," said Parker.
Along with one more
game added to the sched-
ule, the other change to
the league this season is
the removal of the red
line which Parker said
will open up the game.
"Guys are going to have
to be more honest
because you can make
that long pass now."
Hensall won't be looking
for specifically more
offensive players though,
according to Parker, "we
want whoever can play."
Hensall has lost Scott
Wood in goal but Andy
Glavin will be back
between the pipes.
Parker said they were
still deciding on a backup.

Several new players are
looking to fill spots on the
team, including former
Exeter Hawks Jeff
Finkbeiner and Shawn
Sherwood.
Parker said Hensall
would probably be
around the fifth, sixth or
seventh positions in the
league.
Hensall will have a pair
of games in the new facili-
ty in Zurich this season
with one in October and
November because they
ran out of Saturday dates
to play.
The Sherwoods are
practising tonight
(Wednesday) in Zurich at
8 p.m. and Sunday at 3
p.m.
They will be back on the
ice Sept. 29 in Zurich at 8
p.m.
The Sherwoods first
game in Hensall will be
Oct. 16.
