Coats for Kids drive
CLINTON — During the month of September, the
Canadian Red Cross will be collecting coats, snow-
suits, snowpants, hats, mitts, boots and scarves of
all sizes, from infant to adult.
Local businesses have offered to be drop-off sites
where people can donate their winter apparel.
Any item in good condition, with working zip-
pers, is appreciated.
The following areas are the drop-off sites for
thedonations:
Clinton - Clinton Dry Cleaners
- My Fair Lady
Exeter - Canadian Tire
- Dashwood Lock & Key / Sears
- MacLeans Home Hardware
- Rona Cashway
Hensall - D & D Variety
Varna - Varna Country Zurich - Rona Cashway
Walmart has donated 200 back packs full of sup-
plies for students from kindergarten to Grade 8 to
go to students in Huron County.
The backpacks, along with coats and other win-
ter apparel, will be available to anyone who needs
them from October 15-17.
The following distribution sites will be open
October 15 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Oct. 16 from
noon until 4 p.m. and Oct. 17 from 2 p.m. until 5
p.m.

Gourmet food on the menu at Taste of Huron
The third annual Taste of Huron in Black and White was held Sept. 17 at Peckerw000d Farm in support of the

Fellowship meeting held in Dashwood
DASHWOOD — The
education committee of
Dashwood Zion
Lutheran Church, held
their annual Ladies
Fellowship meeting Sept.
17 in Dashwood.
Nearly 100 women
gathered for the meeting
to hear speaker Elaine
Bickel of Millington,
Michigan talk about the
theme 'Friendships of
Women'.
Bickel is the principal
of St. Paul Lutheran
school in Millington and
a well known author and
banquent speaker.
Joanne Maguire, chair-
person of the education
committee of the church
said of the talk that
Bickel gave:
"Through humour and
her own life experiences,
Elaine helped the audi-
ence reflect on different
friendships -
our `forever
friends' that we
really connect
with and those
who we can
reach out which
may seem less
desirable but
also need a
friend."

Proceeds
from the
freewill offer-
ing were
divided
equally
between the
Huron County
Women's
and Breast

HENSALL — The
third annual Taste of
Huron in Black and
White in support of the
Big Brothers Big
Sisters South Huron
was another great suc-
cess Sept. 17 at
Peckerwood Farm.
Bobbi -Jo King,

tor for Big Brothers
Big Sisters South
Huron said the
event raised
$11,000 for the
organization.
King said the night
was fun for all the
guests as they listened
to jazz music while
dining on gourmet food
such as smoked salmon
and smoked trout hor
d'oevres, Boneless leg
of lamb and smoked
bone -in -pork main
course and lemon pot
au creme.
The food was pre-
pared by chefs Barbara
Bloch -Gower, Greg
Murray, Ben Sandwith
and Ian Wark.
All labour, food prod-
ucts and mate-
rials were
donated so
almost 100 per
cent of the pro-
ceeds from the
event goes to sup-
port kids, according to
the SHBBBS.
King said the
September evening
turned slightly cool but
next year's event will
have heat provided.
