Guest enter- tainer was pianist Doug Wolfe. Glena Olcen showed pictures of a trip to China. The 50/50 draw winners during the three weeks were Doris Hamilton, Marjorie Reichert, and Lee Regier. Olcen continues to bring fresh flowers from her garden each week. Small bunches went home with diners Marie Gelinas, Earl Flaxbard, Lottie Grenier, Kay Hay, Pearl Heimrich, and Cecelia Farwell. A get well card went out to Helen MacLean and a sympathy card to Marie Whitney. Congratulations to Pearl Heimrich on her 90th birthday. Anniversary celebration Marg Hayter and staff are busy preparing for a 15th anniversary cele- bration of Zurich Diners on Nov. 17. Reservations for special events and reg- ular Wednesday dining can be made by phoning Hayter at the office 235-0258. Check out the fair entry this weekend GRAND BEND - President Cass Lovie related to the members of Grand Bend Women's Institute several amusing, thought-provoking sayings as she opened the September meeting held at Sauble Court: You fell down the first time you walked. Did you hit the ball the first time you swung the bat? R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on. Plans were completed for the London area convention Tues., Oct. 5 in Holmesville. Table favours will be bags of mixed beans that can be used for soup. The table decorations will be stuffed cloth pumpkins accented with fall leaves. Cass Lovie has been notified that she won third prize for the quilt block she created for the 2005 Conference. Brenda Love received third prize for her book entitled, A Historical Picture Tour of My Community. The Grand Bend WI will partici- pate in the Farmer's Market to be held at Grand Bend on Oct. 9. Final plans for this event were completed also. The display `Dolls Around the World' in the showcase at the Grand Bend Library was explained. This interest- ing array of dolls is a project of the Grand Bend WI. The Exeter Fair entry, `Treasures From Grandma's Day', will be set up at the fair. The WI rose bushes will be cared for by Bertie Keyes. The remain- der of the meeting was spent complet- ing convention projects. ABCA hosts annual fall hike BRUCEFIELD — On Oct. 3, the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) will be hosting the 31st annual Bannockburn Fall Hike from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This year will feature interpretation of the natural areas along the trail by volunteer mem- bers of the Friends of the Bayfield River. A self -guided tour booklet is available for those who like to explore on their own. The Bannockburn Wildlife Area features dominant tree cover, which is perfect scenery for admiring the fall colours. Nestled in the valley is the Bannockburn River, formed by glacial melt waters giving the trail its rolling terrain. Bannockburn is home to a wide variety of wildlife such as the kingfisher, woodpecker, beaver, white-tailed deer and snowshoe hare. The plant life is just as varied with high - bush cranberry, ninebark, wild grape and wildflowers such as black-eyed susan, com- mon blue violets, wild. ginger and ferns.
