Lucan Ilderton Jets back on the ice
LUCAN — For the first time in 24 years, potential
Lucan Ilderton Jets took to the ice last week at the
Lucan Arena as the team prepares to join the WOAA
Men's senior hockey league.
It was the end of a two year process according to
general manager Rob Andrews, who said an attempt
last season to join the league was unsuccessful.
Andrews said he was surprised by the amount of
players at the open tryout, with 40 players looking for
a spot, including 14 goalies, which Andrews said will
be a priority for the team.
"We want to start from the back with good goaltend-
ing. Our goal for the team in its first year will be to be
competitive."
Former Jet Ed Robb will be behind the bench assist-
ed by Glenn Marshall and Scott Greig.
The Jets will play Saturday nights in Lucan over a 25
game schedule, an increase of one over last season for
the league.
The Jets intend to have as many local players as pos-
sible on the team, according to Andrews.
"We want to work with the Junior Ds and give the
guys coming out a spot."
The league will have two nine -team divisions this
season, with the Jets in the southern division along
with Brussels Clinton, Goderich,Hensall, Milverton,
Monkton, Tavistock and Wingham.
Andrews said by Sept.19 the roster should be set
The Jets open their season Oct. 2 with Wingham vis-
iting.
He added all former Jets players are invited to the
game to be recognized by the organization.
