Breast cancer awareness month in October
STRATFORD — The
Canadian Cancer
Society's "Let's Get
Together" Breast
Cancer Awareness
Month tour hits
Stratford in October.
The "Let's Get
Together" tour brings
breast cancer survivor
and humourist Susan
Minns to Stratford Oct.
8 from 7-8:45 a.m. at
the Arden Park Hotel.
Tickets are $15 and
include a buffet break-
fast. Tickets are avail-
able until Sept. 30 by
calling the Huron Perth
Unit at 271-4270.
Previous events have
sold out, so be sure to
get your tickets early!
"Let's Get Together"
is the Canadian Cancer
Society's theme for
Breast Cancer
Awareness Month. It is
a call -to -action encour-
aging women to edu-
cate themselves with
reliable, up-to-date
information about
breast health and to
gather and share this
information with the
women they care
about.
This year's tour will
stop in eight communi-
ties and, in total, will
feature four speakers.
In addition to Stratford,
the tour will stop in
Goderich, Chatham, St.
Thomas, Woodstock,
Petrolia, Windsor and
London.
Through her presen-
tation, "If you have
cancer, you'd better
like lasagna," Minns
will speak of her per-
sonal experience bat-
tling breast cancer and
how she used humour
to help her cope.
Minns' sense of
humour and positive
outlook were her allies

LEARNING TO COOK DIFFERENT FOODS FOR VARIOUS
HEALTH ISSUES CAN BE TRYING. I HAVE FOUND IT SOMETIMES
LESS THAN APPEALING TO MAKE A RECIPE WITHOUT MEAT.
I'VE BEEN AN EAT MEAT KIND OF PERSON FOR A LOT OF
YEARS. BOTH RANDY AND I HAVE TRIED TO CUT BACK AND
LEARN TO ENJOY MEATLESS MEALS. THE FOLLOWING RECIPE
HAS EVOLVED FROM MY ORIGINAL CHILI TO MAKE A VERY
INCREDIBLY GOOD AND SATISFYING MEAL.
VEGETARIAN CHILI
2 onions, slithered
2 ribs celery, cut chunky
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
1 red pepper, cut chunky
1 green pepper, cut chunky (optional)
1 28 oz can diced tomatoes
14 or 19 oz can kidney beans rinsed
1 14 oz can baked beans
1 10 oz can tomato soup
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp black pepper
1-2 tsp chili powder
Add together onions, celery, garlic and saute till limp. Add all
other ingredients and simmer till pepper is soft, or transfer to
slow cooker and leave on low for supper later in the day. This
recipe is great with the chunky style. Adjust your seasonings if
you like a hotter chili; you could even add an haberno-type
pepper. Enjoy!

One of the questions we are frequently asked is
"Can I take my calcium all as one dose?" Your
body can absorb only so much calcium at one
time so taking 500mg per dose is best and
repeat it once or twice throughout the day depending on your
needs.
Ringworm is a contagious fungal infection of the skin. It's not caused
by worms. It occurs most often in Jeople with weakened immune
systems and those living in humic climates. Once diagnosed, it's
easy to treat with fungal creams like Micatin, Canesten or Nizoral.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMC)) is the most common
cause of visual impairment and blindness in North America. Early
diagnosis could help slow the progression of this disease of the
retina. Symptoms include grayness, haziness or blind spot in the
central area or visual distortions (broken or wavy [Ines) on the page
when reading. See your doctor if you notice any of these symptoms.
Don't stop your routinely prescribed medications without speaking to
your doctor first. Sudden stopping of some drugs can trigger
negative symptoms or worsening of the condition for which the drug
was prescribed. Talk about it first.
When you have concerns about any medication, check with our
pharmacists.
