Godbolt said the trail committee appreciates Hansen's support and noted the business is now a gold sponsor of the trail. Hansen said staff, management and the community raised the money through a variety of fundraisers.The official opening for the new trail takes place Oct. 3 at 1:30 p.m. (photo/Scott Nixon) Foundation to host `Purity of Lake Huron Shoreline' GRAND BEND - Grand Bend Community Foundation will sponsor an environmental workshop to provide information on the status of pollution and water quality in Lake Huron. 'The Purity of the Lake Huron Shoreline' workshop will bring together a panel of environmental experts to update atten- dees on this important issue. The work- shop will be held Sat., Sept. 11 at Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre from 9 to 11 a.m. The meeting will be facilitated by Christine Preece, and panel members will include Ted Briggs, Ontario Ministry of Environment and Great Lakes Advisor to the Bi -National Forum on Lake Huron; Bob Slow, Environment Committee, St. Joseph Shores Property Owners Association; Lisa Matlovich, Sarnia Lambton environmental activist on personal pesticide use; Tom Prout, General Manager, Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority. Hank Krech, Chair of the Community Foundation, says that a number of par- ticipants have been invited and the workshop is also open to the public based on availability of seating. "Part of our mandate is to provide leadership in our community by bring- ing people together to discuss important local issues," Krech explains. "We hope people will come out and contribute to greater awareness of this concern, as it affects many aspects of our quality of life in this area." Enter Hensall's decorating contest By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL - Come out and enjoy the friend- ship of the first September meal of the season at the Hensall Drop -In on Sept. 16 at the Hensall United Church. Lunch will be served at 12 p.m. Following lunch, every- one will enjoy music performed by Jean Hodgert and friends. All are wel- come to this luncheon held the third Thursday of each month. Plant auction A huge plant auction featuring plants from Parkway Gardens in London and from mem- bers' gardens will be held at Hensall United Church on Thurs., Sept. 23 starting at 7:15 p.m. Pirie Mitchell will be the auctioneer with Eric Jacobson of Parkway Gardens giving infor- mation on the plants. This event is sponsored by the Hensall and Community Horticultural Society. For more information phone 262-2715. HENSALL NEWS Decorating contest The deadline for entering the annual vil- lage Thanksgiving deco- rating contest is Oct. 4. The deadline for enter- ing the annual village Halloween decorating contest is Oct. 22. Both contests have cate- gories for businesses and homes. These events are sponsored by the Hensall and Community Horticult- ural Society The sympathy of the community is extended to the family and friends of Donald Munn. Exercise program starts Sept. 8 Exeter Dining for Seniors August report EXETER - Throughout the month of August, keyboard musicians were Jean Hodgert, June Dougherty and Josie Ryckman. Draw prizes were won by Mary Cox, Marion Dearing, Marie Wilds, Kay Cockwill, Martin Andrews, Josie Ryckman and Eldon Heywood. A card was sent to Alvin and Edith Faulder on the death of Alvin's sister. A card was also sent to Audrey McRoberts on the death of her sister. Birthdays were celebrated by Joe Wilds, Lillian Johns, Onah Stackhouse and Burdene Morgan. Congratulations to Mary Lou Wright, the draw prize winner for a free meal at the Dining for Seniors program spon- sored by Town and Country Support Services. Upcoming entertainment for September will include Mary F. Dowe and the Christie Brothers, Glena Olcen, Sheila Penn and Nancy Walker. Foot care appointments can be made by contacting 235-0258. The next appointment dates will be Sept. 7 and Sep. 21, then Oct. 5 and Oct. 19. On Aug. 3, Gail Huber from the Huron Addiction Centre in Clinton spoke to the group. Dental hygienist Margaret Dether spoke on Aug. 10. On Aug. 17 everyone sang along with Audrey Haugh as she entertained with her keyboard. Corky Bedard and friends sang and played on Aug. 17. Lucy Sage and Jean Hodgert led a sing -song on Aug. 31. The exercise program starts again on Sept. 8. All are welcome to come for the fun and exercise from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday mornings.
