HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2004-09-08, Page 88 Exeter Times—Advocate Wednesday, September 8, 2004 Zurich ladies bowling league begins Mon.Sept. 13 By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - The Agricultural Society held their fair board meeting at the Zurich Complex on Sept. 2 with first vice-president Hilda Lansbergen and Margaret Deichert running the business in absence of president Paul Klopp. Minutes of the last meeting and treasurer's report were read. The Zurich Fair in July was a big success and a motion was made to have another one July 22, 23, 24, 2005, with the theme 'Clown'n Around'. Sylvia Neeb will be in charge of getting ideas ready, and being in charge of the float. Her daughter Amanda will do the front cover of the program again and help to change the prize list with the fun theme. A thank -you card was read from the 4-H Goat Club for the ribbons. Public meeting The annual public meeting will be held on Fri., Nov. 26. The regular monthly meeting is on Thurs., Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. The former Dominion Hotel, now called 'Smiles', has been remodeled and is open. It looks great! New win- dows and front of the building make a big improve- ment. Inside the front entrance, where the dining room was, is now one open room. Drop in and see for your- self how nice it is. Fred Denomme of Calgary spent last week visiting with his mother, Josie Denomme and helping her while she is recuperating; also, her two grandchildren were with her for a few days. Marlene and Lewis Gingerich are happy to announce the arrival of their grandson, Justin Anthony Tate son of Dorcas and Lloyd in Barrie. He was born on Aug. 12. The Gingerichs spent two weeks in Barrie helping out with two-year-old Emma. Congratulations Congratulations to Joe and Rose Regier of Zurich as they celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4 with Mass at St. Boniface Church at 1 p.m. followed by dinner and reception at the Blue Water Community Centre. Several friends, relatives and family members attending. Happy 40th wedding anniversary wishes on Sept. 5 to Bill and Toni Brand of RR 2, Hensall. Congratulations to Donald (Corky) and Shirley Bedard of Bayview Subdivision on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4. A celebration put on by their two daughters will be held Sept. 11 in Michigan. The lucky winner of the St. Boniface Catholic Women's League quilt at the Bean Festival was Ann Brand of Bayfield. Happy anniversary to Denny and Rose Overholt on Aug. 31. Happy birthday to Mike Ryckman (Erb's Country Kitchen) of Dashwood on Aug. 31. Recent visitors with Teresa Stark were granddaugh- ters Cynthia and Mike Castellucci and new baby Mya of Windsor. Along with Jenny and Pat Spiteri of Windsor. John and Mary Earl and three children returned home safe and sound after travelling out east on a month's vacation. They visited relatives in various places in Newfoundland and John's dad. They also saw John's mother in Labrador. While in Prince Edward Island they visited with Mary's two brothers. Congratulations to Edwin and Alice Martin of the Maplewoods Apartments who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 6 with a family dinner held at the Zurich Mennonite Church. Several friends and relatives attended (about 100) who enjoyed a musical program which was arranged by their six chil- dren and grandchildren who came from various places. Happy birthday wishes to our grandchildren: Tiffany Eybergen at Georgia University, on Sept. 7, and Tim Klopp on Sept. 12. Sincere sympathy May we offer our sincere sympathy to wife Marie, family and relatives of the late Mark Whitney who passed away last week. BWRH Events There is an Alzheimer's Coffee Break at the Blue Water Rest Home on Thurs., Sept. 23 in the auditorium from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Helpers are needed to serve coffee. Martin Gelinas will entertain the resi- dents at Blue Water Rest Home Wed., Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. The Spiritual Connections will be there Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. On Sept. 14 the residents will enjoy playing bingo with the help of those from Community Living in Dashwood. Jeff Miller and his friends are putting on a musical program at the Home on Wed., Sept. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is most welcome to attend these events and visit residents. Carmel's party I would like to say a big thank you to all my family for ZURICH NEWS Driver in crash receives 12 hour susnsion SOUTH HURON — On Aug.ug30, shortly before 12:30 a.m., OPP were called to a single -vehicle crash on London Road north of MacDonald Line. Officers arrived to find ambulance and the local fire department on site. Officers discovered that a red 1994 Ford pickup truck was southbound on London Road when the driver left the roadway and rolled down a ditch. An 18 -year-old South Huron man was taken to South Huron Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released. During the investigation the driver was found with alcohol on his breath, failed a roadside test and, after breathalyser tests was determined to be just below the level of criminal charges being laid. Further investigation discovered that the driver had crashed due to fatigue. As a result, he was charged with careless driving and issued a 12 -hour license suspen- sion for blowing above 50 mgs. the wonderful surprise birthday party on Aug. 29 at the Zurich Complex. The video presentation was price- less and it is a day I will always remember. In lieu of gifts, donations were given to the Mother, Daughter Walk for Heart and Stroke on Sun., Sept. 26 in London at Spring Bank Park which all of our family will be tak- ing part in. Thanks again, Mom (Carmel). RotaryYouth Exchange Program An open house in Zurich was held on Aug. 22, at the home of Francis and Cindy Denomme as a send-off for their daughter Michelle. Michelle left on Aug. 26 for Waterloo, Belgium through the Rotary International Youth Exchange Program. Michelle will spend a year in Belgium where she will be attending school, Rotary meetings and Rotary conferences. Michelle is sponsored by the Goderich Rotary Club and while in Belgium will be giving presentations of Canada. Many neighbours, friends and family attended the open house and provided Michelle with a great start for her upcoming year. The ladies bowling league will start at the Town and Country Lanes in Zurich on Mon., Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome to come out and have fun and exercise at the same time. See you there.
