TIMES -ADVOCATE Exeter 235-1331 Zurich Fair Board meetingThurs., Sept. 2 By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - The Bean Festival turned out well again this year and was very successful. President Rose Erb and her dedicat- ed volunteers worked hard and long to get the beans cooked. They ran into electrical problems with the bean cookers; but, when the day came every- ZUR thing turned out great. Even the weather cleared up and the sun shone for the afternoon. It was nice to see Cynthia and Mark Strickland back from Goderich to help out. There were lots of winners from various draws. But, as I am writing this Sunday night I haven't heard of the winners names. So please, every- one call and let me know for next week's newspa- per. The dance Saturday night had a full house and I heard it was a lot of fun. Helpers are needed to keep the festival going again next year, so now is the time to call Rose Erb and put your name on the list. Everyone involved this year did a great job. 60th birthday party Sunday turned out to be a very special day for me -actually, I'm still in shock. My five daughters (and sons-in-law) put on a beautiful surprise 60th 26 Auctions birthday party for me at the Blue Water Community Centre with about 80 people attending. Relatives, friends, and neighbours came from various places such as Halifax, Windsor, Sarnia, Listowel, Dorchester, Dashwood and the Zurich area. The girls decorated the hall with a 1950s theme, with spe- ICHNEWS cial music for dancing by the Gelinas rel- atives. They even had `Elvis' come all the way from Chatham to enter- tain. He was great!! What a surprise! I still can't believe it. My girls are the best. They even had a pic- ture of Elvis on the ice cream cake and all the food was delicious. It was nice to see Father Francis and Father John there too. Everyone sure kept a big secret, even Jerome. I am sure it took a lot of plan- ning and hard work to get everything ready. It's great to be 60. Kenzie Strickland, my nephew from Halifax, spent the last two weeks visiting relatives in Ontario. He was in Montreal on business for a couple of days, then spent a week in Windsor with aunts and uncles. He went to Sarnia, then came to Zurich for the Bean Festival and my birthday party on Sunday.
