The 4-2 loss gave Nairn their first win of the season and left Exeter in a precarious position at the bottom of the Second Division standings. The Fury are in a three -team battle to avoid being relegated to Third Division for next season with three games remaining against tough opposi- tion. The first half didn't start well for the Fury when keeper Nathan Holmes' goal kick went to a Nairn player who chipped the ball over Holmes before he could get back into the net. The Fury appeared to tie the game when Marty DeBruyn's head- er looked to be across the line while in the air but the referee disal- lowed it after the Nairn defender cleared it Golf roundup Swooa HENSALL SHERWOODS SR. DeBruyn got revenge right after as another header found its way to the back of the net to tie the score 1-1. The Fury started putting pressure on the home team and with the goalie out of the play Ryan Carroll's shot bounced off the post. But before it could cross the goal line, the ball stopped dead in a puddle in the goal crease Heading into the sec- ond half the Fury were confident of gaining the goals they would need to win the game but Nairn had other ideas. Holmes had to make three outstanding div- ing saves to keep his team in the game and Shawn McFalls stopped a shot with his head that was labeled for the corner also. The home squad was able to notch two quick goals to take a 3-1 lead but the Fury responded with DeBruyn tallying his second of the game. Exeter battled to gain the tie but with the team pushing for the equalizer the Nairn team capitalized by scoring their fourth of the game to seal the victory. "This is a huge loss for us," stated Fury spokesman Jason McFalls. "Sometimes the team with the bet- ter players is not always the better team," McFalls added. The loss drops the Fury's record to 4-7-4 with the next action for Exeter Sept. 12 at home against the second place American team at 7 p.m. ZURICH MEN'S REC HOCKEY LEAGUE Anyone interested in playing Thursday nights must contact Chad Desjardine at 236-7889 or 852-5032 BY SEPT. 6TH 0 TJ's FAMILY BILLIARDS Come out and sign up for our Leagues SIGN UP EARLY!
