Consisting of girls 19 years old and younger, the team is made up of players from various schools in the area, including Heidi Muller, Lindsay Muller, Kelly Cronyn, Shelby Musser, Susie McCann and Leanne Cronyn. The team is coached by Brenyn Baynham. The team opened the tournament with a 4-1 win over West before a 1-0 win over Central East. The second game was close with action back and forth before Southwestern pre- vailed. (photo/submitted) chances. In game four against Central West on day two of the tournament, it was close again. Southwestern played to a 1-1 tie against the team which went on to win the tournament. In game five, Southwestern was an evenly matched game. Down 2-0, Southwestern could score only one goal for the rest of the match. Playing for the bronze medal against Central West in exciting action, Southwestern won 1-0. Coach Baynham said the team played extremely well to come together in the end and showed a lot of team- work. "I was very impressed with their play and dedication," said Baynham. Farm women's group examines many issues HURON -PERTH — Huron -Perth Women for the Support of Agriculture (HPWSA) is ready for another year of excellent speakers of interest to farm women. In September, Farm Credit Canada is sponsor- ing a presentation by renowned speaker and educator Dr. John Fast at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. Fast will provide an eye-opening look at the emotional issues behind family farm businesses and focus on habits of highly successful farm families. You'll learn con- crete steps to take back to your family to improve communication and build harmony. As the founder of the Centre for Family Business, Fast has helped Canadian farm families achieve excellence. Registration to this event is free for HPWSA mem- bers. Fast is the first of many speakers on HPWSA's well-rounded agenda. Meetings are the fourth Thursday of the month at 8 p.m. at the Mitchell Legion on St. Andrew Street in Mitchell. POLICE BRIEFS llderton hotbed of crime last weekend ILDERTON — Middlesex OPP officers were kept busy on Sunday morning in the Ilderton area. A number of residents reported their vehicle ignitions damaged in theft attempts. Some of the damage was not discovered until Sunday morn- ing. Reports include: • A red Jeep had the ignition punched in the driveway of a residence on Ilderton Road. • A Toyota SUV was damaged in a theft attempt at a residence on Willow Ridge Road. • A Dodge Ram pickup truck was stolen from a residence on Meredith Street and found on Ilderton Road near Meredith in the morning. When recovered, the vehicle was running with the wipers on. • The Ilderton Food Mart at 13227 Ilderton Road was broken into on Sunday in the early morning. The owner of the store heard the alarm at 4:20 a.m. and went to the store to investigate. Once inside, the owner located two males behind the counter stealing cigarettes. Both males fled when confronted. The two suspects escaped in a Chrysler Intrepid described as gold or gray in colour. The suspects got away with approximate- ly 10 cartons of cigarettes worth about $500. The OPP are investigating. The vehicle involved in the Food Mart break and enter was later recovered at the south end of Middlesex County. The Intrepid had been stolen from St Thomas the evening before. The public is being asked to contact the OPP or Crime Stoppers if they have any information about these thefts.
