Approximately $60,000 was raised by 395 walkers at several sites across Middlesex County which will support VON services such as palliative care, meals on wheels, volunteer visiting and home support.(photo/PatBolen) Fire department not making phone solicitations SOUTH HURON — Chief John Morgan of the South Huron Fire Department alerted police of an inci- dent where a citizen received a phone solicita- tion for funds to buy res- cue equipment for the local fire department. According to police, a similar request was reported by another citi- zen this summer The South Huron Fire Department has not been involved in any attempts of raising money through phone solicitation. If you receive a call like this, contact the local OPP office in Exeter. Citizens are also advised to ask for the information to be sent to you in writing whenever they are dealing with phone solicitations. Michelle Iredale was recent overnight guest with grandparents Ron and Margaret Carroll prior to school opening. The MacGillivrays and several friends attended the ball game in Toronto at the SkyDome Sunday when the Blue Jays were playing the New York Yankees. Starr and Suzanne Davis attended the Bean Festival in Zurich on Saturday and in the evening were guests at the surprise birthday celebrations honouring friend Mary Thiel. Helen McCrady, wife of Morry, died on Wed., Aug. 25 in her 91st year. Well known in Granton in the 1950s, Helen was the daughter of former Granton United Church minister Rev. Gordon C.
