McDonald's scholarship
Ben Martin, centre, was the recent recipient of a $250
annual McDonald's Employee Scholarship.The scholar-
ship is awarded for making a difference at work, at
school and in the community."McDonald's has always
been committed to creating opportunities for our
employees," says Exeter McDonald's owner Rob Reid.
"The McDonald's Employee Scholarship Program is
another way we celebrate the achievements of our val-
ued employees and show our support in helping them
reach their goals."The scholarship program started over
20 years ago. Since it began, over 4,000 McDonald's
employees have received scholarships totalling more
than $2 million. Standing with Martin are assistant man-

Stephenson Steps
coming to Exeter Oct. 3

VARNA - The Stan Lee Club will begin the fall season
Wed., Sept. 8 with a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. at the
Complex.
Thurs., Aug. 26 the Varna UCW and friends met at
the Goshen Church for a delicious homemade meal
catered by the Goshen UCW. Pastor Elly led with the
Blessing and everyone enjoyed the meal. Thank you
ladies of the Goshen UCW!
Following the meal, Deb Rathwell welcomed everyone
and thanked the Goshen women for the great dinner.
She also thanked Shirley Hill and Eleanor McAsh for
organizing the evening.
The treasurer's report was sent around. A thank you
was read from the Taylor family and also from Denise
from Pearls Health Care. Mavis Govier was thanked for
taking charge of the children's games at the church pic-
nic and everyone that helped for the 150.
Shirley Hill was organizing the food booth for the
Huron County Plowing Match to be held on Bill
Dowson's farm land on Aug. 27. Next meeting will be
Thurs., Oct. 7. Following the meeting, the women
moved on to the Playhouse in Grand Bend to watch A
Closer Walk With Patsy Cline.
Congratulations to Miranda Postill (daughter of
Tammy and Darrel) and Alysha Dowson (daughter of
John and Gayle). They both placed at the talent show in
Bayfield and will be both going on to the Western Fair.

Oct 3 Deb Rathwell and Leisa Stephenson will be
doing the Stephenson Steps in Exeter to support the
Cure for Cancer. They will be looking for pledges so be
generous! Church services will resume this Sun., Sept.
5 at 10:30 a.m.
Stone sill stolen
BLUEWATER — On Aug. 12 at 8:15 p.m., OPP were
contacted about the theft of stone carved windowsills
from a newly constructed home on Parr Line in
Bluewater.
The officer learned the theft occurred at approximate-
ly 1:30 p.m. that day when a person driving a yellow
tractor stopped and loaded 36 sills valued at $4,000
into a wagon and drove off. The sills were sitting on a
wooden flat and the skid had all cement sills sitting on it
when stolen. If you have information about this theft
call the OPP or Crimestoppers.

On Sept. 12, Rev. Stephen Mparinkoi
from Kenya will be speaking at Exeter
United Church at 7:30 p.m. about the
work of Canadian Foodgrains Bank in

at 8 p.m. at the church. Program: Jean
