EXETER — The Exeter W&K/Co-op Juniors played
their second game of the young season Sunday night
coming out with a disappointing 5 - 1 loss to Mitchell.
With the exception of Dave Gingerich, Exeter's bats
were non-existent.
Exeter coach Jeff Keller said Gingerich has been hit-
ting really well, getting another double last night.
Gingerich scored the only run of the game as well, on
a passed ball. Exeter managed just two hits all night.
"We really need to get our hitting going. The bats
are taking a long time to come around this year," said
Keller.
Although the batting was not great, Exeter was
patient enough at the plate to get on base.
Exeter stranded nine runners in scoring position.
Keller said it was nice to see the patience at the plate,
but you have to hit the ball to get guys in.
Exeter's defence was not its usual self either - com-
mitting three errors, of which Mitchell took advantage
of every one.
Terry Hogg pitched a great game for Exeter accord-
ing to Keller, going five solid innings and allowing just
three hits.
It was the three errors that cost Exeter the game.
"Mitchell really took advantage of our mistakes.
They just out -played us," said Keller.
Mark Laye went in at the top of the sixth inning and
pitched well, allowing one run on one hit and no
walks.
"Our pitching continues to shine, we just need to start
giving them some run support. It is only a matter of
time before the bats come alive,"
Exeter was in Kincardine Monday night and play
back at home Sunday night at 5 p.m. versus the
London Hornets.
