Injuries slow SH Panther girls rugby team
EXETER — The Panther
girls and senior boys
rugby teams participated
in the Miller cup tourna-
ment in Stratford May 4.
The senior boys lost
their first game to
Kincardine on penalty
kicks after tying 12-12 in
regulation.
Ryan Knee and Adam
Hayter scored the tries
and Justin Muller added a
convert.
The boys defeated
Mitchell 10-0 in their sec-
ond game on tries by
Corey Lawron and Jordan
Darling.
In the consolation final
the team lost a tough
decision 5-0 to
Newtonbrook Collegiate
on the last play of the
game.
The girls opened with a
12-5 victory over Cardinal
Newman from
Scarborough.
Julie Prout, Amber
Caldwell scored the tries
and Erica McTavish
added the convert.
The team lost their sec-
ond game to Walkerton
Sacred Heart 15-0. In the
third game, the team suf-
fered two or three injuries
and lost 10-0 to
Kincardine.
Once again, the team
played hard considering
the injuries and inexperi-
ence.
The girls rugby team,
depleted by injuries and
with only 15 players, put
forth a valiant effort but
lost to St. Annes 25-0 May
6.
Considering a numbers
of players were playing
out of position as well, it
was a very game perfor-
mance.
The senior boys also put
forth a superb effort
against a very good St.
Anne team.
The team played with
tremendous intensity and
did a great job in all phas-
es of play.
Mike MacLean and
Jordan Darling scored the
two tries, Darling convert-
ed one try and Justin
Muller kicked a very nice
penalty kick.
It added up to a 15-5
victory.
Well done to all the
teams for excellent
efforts.
Next action for the
rugby teams will be the
London Cup May 13 for
the girls and senior boys,
and May 14 for the junior
boys.

Several South Huron grads were members of the Huron hockey team which won the B4 Division of Toronto's
Downtown Hockey League recently. Matt Godbolt was named second star in the final game for his strong
defensive play and for scoring the game -winning goal with an assist from Jeff Lingard. Doug Kells was the first
star in the final game, with his third shutout of the playoffs. He also had the lowest goals against average in the
division during the regular season (2.20), which improved to 1.78 during the playoffs. which he said was due to
the solid team commitment to defense. The Hurons finished with six of the top 10 playoff scorers, paced by
Steve Lingard's five goals and five assists for 10 points in eight games. Back L -R: Kirby Short, Darcy Forster,
