In a time-honoured tradition, award-win- ning Drayton Entertainment is pre- senting special perfor- mances of the magical musical masterpiece 'The Secret Garden' exclusively to school groups. A complement to the music and drama requirements of the school curriculum, 12 performances will be presented over two weeks — May 25 through June 4. "We believe that all children should have the opportunity to experi- ence live theatre," says Alex Mustakas, Artistic Director. "By introduc- ing area children to the- atre, we give them a chance to develop an understanding of the ideas, beliefs, attitudes, and feelings of people throughout history, and expand their minds so that they may become the productive adults of tomorrow." Based on the children's literary classic, 'The Secret Garden' is an emotional tour de force production that poignantly captures the healing power of love. It features one of the most beautiful, haunt- ing, and memorable scores in musical the- atre. As well as having a fantastic score, impres- sive set, and an epic sto- ryline, 'The Secret Garden' also provides students with a unique learning opportunity outside of the classroom. Research indicates the rewards of exposing children to live theatre are immense. Through experiencing live perfor- mance arts, children are able to strengthen their imaginations, expand their intellectual hori- zons to include aesthetic awareness, and promote understanding and criti- cal appreciation. Mustakas selected 'The Secret Garden' for the 2004 Student Matinee Experience because the production is packed with important themes and messages about love, friendship, forgive- ness, and most of all, restored dignity that will resonate with audiences of all ages. Tickets are only $15 each for students, and teachers and adult chap- erones are complimenta- ry. Education study guides and materials are also supplied to ade- quately prepare students for the performance. 'The Secret Garden' is proudly sponsored by RBC Financial Group and the Co-operators. Media Sponsors are FM 96 and AM 980. The 2004 Season is proudly sponsored by Lavis Contracting Co. Ltd. and The New PL.
