EXETER — The junior boys rugby
team lost their season opener to

annual tournament Thursday.

Mikes, a much larger team, 15-0. It
was also the first game ever for
approximately half the team.

ZURICH — Area residents will get a
chance to see the new Bluewater
Community Centre as well as displays of
sports and recreation this weekend at the
first annual Zurich Lions Club Spring
Sports and Leisure Show.
The show is being held Friday from 4-9
p.m., Saturday noon to 6 p.m. and
Sunday 1-4 p.m. with free admission.
It is being run in conjunction with the
Fish Fry Friday night from 5 to 8 p.m..
Tickets for the Fish Fry are $10 each and
admission to the sports show is free.
Zurich Lions chairperson Bob
Heighington said the club is trying to
grow back and with the opening of the
community centre it was an opportunity
to take on a new project.
"It seems to have taken both for the
club and for the community to boost the
name of Lionism" said Heighington.
Starting next year, the Zurich Lions club
will be 60 years old.
Heighington said it is a good way to try
and encourage more enthusiasm.
"Over the years, it's been a club that
has been very supportive of the commu-
nity and we would like to see that back
again."
Heighington said there would be about
30 displays in the show, covering a wide
variety of products, including boats, trail-
ers, motorcycles, sign makers, mini air-
planes, hot tubs,farm machinery and
canoe making.
The OPP will also be on hand to talk
about boating rules.
With most of the exhibitors in the show
local merchants, Heighington said he was
impressed with the talent in the area.
"It's showing up here with all the differ-
ent people supporting their community."
He added they have had great support
from the Municipality of Bluewater, who
have kept them informed all the way
through the building process.
"The mayor and the staff have been so
co-operative, it just made the job we did
and the risk we took so easy. It's one way
to encourage people to support the club
again."
The Lions hold their regular meetings at
Erb's Country Kitchen the second and
fourth Wednesday of every month.
