The groom is the son of Doug and Darlene Geoffrey of Exeter. A buck and doe was held for Darren Oesch and Alicia VanderLoo on Aug. 21 at the Varna Complex. The couple are being mar- ried in October. Darren is the son of Ron Oesch of RR 2, Zurich. Congratulations to Randy and Nancy Regier of RR 3, Zurich who cele- brated their 25th wedding anniversary. Happy birthday to Francine Vanasse on Aug. 18. A surprise party and barbecue supper was held for her on Saturday orga- nized by Mike and friends. Laurene Corriveau returned home after spending the past month in California visiting her son, Peter Corriveau and family. She also visited her sister, Ann Primrose in Grass Valley, California. The Saturday morning Youth Bowling League is having registration Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at Town and Country Bowling Lanes, Zurich for ages 4 to 18. If you can't be there and want to bowl in September call Mike 236- 4923 as soon as possible. The next free bus ride to the Bank of Montreal in Hensall will be Tues., Aug. 31; catch it at the Blue Water Rest Home and Maplewoods Apartments at about 9:15 a.m. or at the corner in front of the Hay Mutual Building at 9:25 a.m. The Grand Bend Seniors will be entertaining the residents of Blue Water Rest Home, Zurich on Fri., Aug. 27 at 2:30 p.m. On Mon., Aug. 30 guest speaker Jamie Ramer will talk on Hockey Ministry. On Tues., Aug. 31 at 2:30 p.m. Mary Dow and Murray Christie will be at the Blue Water Rest Home. Anyone is welcome to attend. The Zurich Youth Bowling group were busy on the weekend providing barbecued hotdogs and pop at the park for a base- ball tournament. The families of the late Adella and Fred Regier attended the funeral of their relative, Vivian Potier in St. Claire Beach near Windsor, on Aug. 20. Belated birthday wishes to Monique Gelinas whose birthday was Aug. 18, and also to Gordie Smith and Irene Hoffman both on Aug. 22. A bus trip to the Thousand Islands was enjoyed last week by 51 people from various places such as Mitchell, Clinton, Seaforth, Dashwood and Zurich. The travelers stayed at Hill Island Lodge and had a great time. The meals were delicious. They went on a bus trip and a three-hour boat cruise at Gananoque. A fair board meeting will be held on Thurs., Sept. 2 at 8 p.m. in the small room at the Blue Water Community Centre in Zurich. The Huron County Plowing Match, to be held at the farm of Bill and Joyce Dowson, begins with a princess competition for girls 12 to 15 years of age on Thurs., Aug. 26. The rest of the events will take place on Aug. 27 as well as a barbecue supper at 5 p.m. Queen of the Furrow competition is open to young women 16 to 24 years of age. Be sure to come out to the annual Bean Festival in Zurich this Sat., Aug. 28 which starts with a pan- cake and sausage break- fast at the arena from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The bean dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. There are lots of activities going on all day. Cruise night is Fri., Aug. 27 at 7 p.m. followed by fireworks at the park at dusk. Entertainment will be going on all day. Saturday night the dance at the new Blue Water Community Centre will go from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The Village Prosperity Committee will be selling tickets on a quilt at the Bean Festival. It will be drawn at the Christmas Parade in December. T h e Rebekahs group spent the weekend camping at the Zurich Fairgrounds Pavilion. Anyone wanting to go to the Catholic Women's League Deanery meeting on Wed., Sept. 29 in Dublin at St. Patrick's Parish are to call presi- dent Joan Regier at 236- 4289. Registration is at 8 a.m. with Mass at 3 p.m. The Zurich Minor Athletic Association are once again selling Cash Calendars for daily draws that start Nov. 1 and run to the end of February 2005. For more informa- tion call Ann Craner at 236-7107. Keep saving pop cans for St. Boniface building fund. Drop them off at the home of Doug Debus in Zurich or John Jacobs in Hensall. Also, school will soon be starting so you will be able to send Campbell's Soup labels with the children again. ZURICH NEWS Seniors at Activest ST. CATHARINES — Aug. 16 44 seniors from District 29 boarded a bus for St. Catharines compete at Actifest. They would be competing in only one event each of the next three days. The group would represent 16 different events. Wednesday night, the tired group returned home with two bronze medals. Carpet bowlers Christine Osmond and John Parker from Grand Cove earned one medal and Joan Perrie from Seaforth in the 200 metre prediction swim won the other. Exeter lawn bowlers won all their games the first day but lost out the second day. On the final score they were listed as fifth out of 28 teams. Shuffleboard couple Edna Deitz and Lorne Archer from Hensall won all games the first day also but lost the second day. Exeter swimmer Mike Underhill bettered his time both days but missed out on the medals. Fourteen hundred seniors attended for this all -Ontario event which has a busy schedule.
