WATERLOO — The U-19 SouthWestern Ontario
Regional Girls Rugby Team travelled to Waterloo on
Aug. 10.
The exhibition fixture was a tune up for the Ontario
Summer Games to be held in London later this month.
The team represents all of southwestern Ontario and
draws players from Walkerton, Wingham, Kincardine,
Exeter, Hensall, London and Seaforth.
The SouthWest girls put forth a strong effort defeating
the more experienced squad from Waterloo 21-10.
Tries were scored by Shaw Bellefeuille of Kincardine,
Katie Weber of Walkerton and Shannon Johnston of
Lucknow.
Johnston also successfully converted all three tries for
the regional team in a terrific display of kicking.
Coach Bob Illman of Grand Bend was impressed with
the play of his team, especially Laura Reinhart of
Walkerton, who played a gritty match as hooker.
The team is looking forward to building on this suc-
cess and improving their play for the first game of the
Summer Games Aug. 20.
The team's first game is Friday at 10 a.m. against the
Eastern Ontario Rugby Union.
They then go against Niagara at 1 p.m. and the final
round-robin game is against Toronto Saturday at 10
a.m.
The coaching staff is Bill King, Bob Illman and Ryan
Clancy.

EXETER — The Exeter Hawks demolition derby is
ready to smash and crash again this weekend at the
South Huron Rec Centre.
Starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, competitors in several dif-
ferent categories will try to pound each other into sub-
mission for the prize of $1,000 for the overall winner.
Drivers will be competing in four, six and eight cylin-
der classes with a pickup class also available.
Organizer Tom Seip said there have been a fair
amount of calls already.
He said many of the drivers also wait until the day of
the event to decide whether to compete. "If they can get
the car going, they'll enter," said Seip.
The derby has been moved up a week instead of like
other years when it was the same day as the Zurich
Bean Fest and many people were tired by the time the
derby was starting.
The entry fee is $35 per car with all the money from
the entry fees going to the drivers so the more competi-
tors, the bigger the prizes.
The event is run by Extreme Productions and spon-
sored by Huron Motor Products of Exeter.
There is no deadline for entering and applications are
available at the South Huron Rec Centre.
For more information call Seip at 235-2828.
