Everyone over the age of 18 is also advised to wear a helmet. Research shows hel- mets can be extremely effective in preventing head injuries. When buying a helmet, make sure it has a safety approval sticker on the inside, and be sure of a good fit. OPP officers have found many kids riding with helmets that are not adjusted properly. The helmet should sit square- ly on the head, not falling forward or back, and should not wobble from side to side. The side clips join two safety straps that should form an inverted "A" on the Tyke Blue 2 vs Gold 4. Goals: Jake Hrudka (2), Brandan Willis (2). Assist: Fraser Fulton. The strap should be tightened so only one fmger can be placed underneath the chinstrap. If the helmet doesn't fit properly, it would be of little use in a collision. About three-quarters of all cycling fatalities involve head injuries. Some municipalities in Huron County have part- nered with the OPP to encourage safe cycling with the use of helmets. In the Town of Goderich if a child is spotted by an officer wearing a bicycle helmet and following the rules of the road the child is issued a coupon for an ice cream cone. The program has been running in the municipal- ity for several years with youths often looking for OPP cruisers to show they are setting the right example and obtain that coupon. If you are in a motor vehicle and encounter a cyclist on the roadway, slow down and leave a wide berth of space for the cyclist — especially if you have a heavy vehicle. Conversely, cyclists should ride single file on the roadway. Cycling clubs will often travel in a large groups for safety. The OPP receives com- plaints from motorists of cyclists riding side-by- side and holding up traf- fic. Cyclists and motorists should simply use com- mon sense and courtesy when sharing the road. Cyclists should always ride on the right side of the road going with traf- fic and stay to the right edge about 18 inches from the curb. softball baseball re Exeter/Hensall (EH) Huron/Perth Girls July 29—Zurich 19 vs EH 22.
