July 27, 1994 - On Roy
Wilson's Centralia area farm, his
1994 growing season was all
over in about two or three min-
utes, Sunday morning. Hail the
size of marbles shredded an
entire 140 acres worth of crops,
leaving nothing to harvest.
Michael Stevens, a Dashwood
teenager is in Naples, Italy this
week attending the European
premiere of the film in which he stars, "The
Return of Tommy Tricker" at a children's film fes-
tival.
25 YEARS AGO.
August 2, 1979 - Lyle and Isobel Stokes of Ailsa
Craig were the town's leading couple over the
weekend as they graciously served as Grand
Master and Lady for the annual Gala Days in Ailsa
Craig.
Tom Rookes, a resident of Exeter in England
was in town presenting some gifts. Local mayor
Derry Boyle reciprocated with a town plaque and
some history books. Boyle learned that his coun-
terpart in England does not receive an annual
salary, but is chauffered to all official functions in
a Rolls Royce.
Lt. Col. W.A. MacDonald , Commanding Officer
of Ipperwash Army Cadet Camp recently present-
ed a Meritorius Award to Roy Baynham of R.R. 3,
Kippen in recognition of Mr. Baynham's outstand-
ing service to the cadet camp. He has a total of 31
years with the Department of National Defence.
40YEARS AGO
August 2, 1964 - Two Exeter ballet students
have received signal honours from the Western
Ontario Conservatory of Music. Jo -Ann Whilsmith
and Gayle Ecker have been named medal winners
from the school for the season.
Dial switching equipment is being installed in
the new telephone buildings in both Hensall and
Seaforth for the introduction of dial telephone ser-
vice in November.
45 YEARS AGO
August 5, 1959 - A big market for local turnip
growers was assured when it was announced that
the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company had
leased the Centralia plant of Exeter Turnip Sales.
Production target for the firm this year is 500,000
bushels.
Paul Wilson, former editor of the SHDHS Ink
Spot topped this year's graduating class with eight
first class honours and one second. He scored an
average of 84.4 percent.
Sylvia Johns of Woodham has recently joined
the staff of Westervelt Business College. Miss
Johns is a gaduate of SHDHS. and Westervelt.

August 2, 1949 - Loreen Venner, Iris
Tomlinson, Barbara Brintnell, Olive Petrie,
Marilyn Skinner, Jean Thompson, Kathleen
Armstrong and Shirley Harness are attending Girl
Guide camp this week at Kitchigami.
James L. Hendry, manager of the Exeter branch
of the Bank of Montreal has received word that he
has been transferred to the branch in Owen
Sound.
A new firm, Exeter Farm Equipment has been
established in the village to take over the J.I Case
agency formerly handled by Snell Bros. Dick
Jermyn, a native of Granton is the proprietor of
the new company.
Local photographer Jack Doerr has been invited
to join a panel of judges to pick prize winning pho-
tographs at the 1994 edition of the Western Fair.
80YEARS AGO
August 3, 1924 - A $7,000 bylaw to provide for
an addition to Exeter High School has been
passsed by council.
Mr. Frank W. Tom has been nominated to the
General Assembly of the state of Ohio.
Dr. Bell of Hensall has purchased the farm of
Mr. John Bell, a mile south of the village of
Hensall.
85 YEARS AGO
August 3, 1919 - Edward Taylor, son of Mr. and
Mrs. James Taylor of Exeter saved a young lady
from drowning at Grand Bend a week ago.
Flight Lieutenant Clifford Hicks of Centralia,
now a Flight Commander in the City of Ottawa
fighter-bomber squadron in Normandy met up
with an old school -mate Corporal Andy Bierling,
who is with the First Hussars, also in France.

ery, processing, taxes or custom fees; or
You didn't receive the prize you were promised but it
has just been found in a warehouse and if you just send
more money, it will be delivered; or
You have come to the attention of a special legal or
police group that helps consumers get their money back
from scam artists - for a fee; or
You could win a fortune in a foreign lottery.
The caller may be a Scam Artist!
Say "No Thanks" and hang-up on fraud. Never give
personal or financial information over the phone unless
you have placed the call yourself and know the compa-
ny. If in doubt, call one of the numbers below, or your
local police service at (519) 235-1300 for help or advice
