The 15 children and their inter- preter arrived June 20 and stay until Aug. 1. Six children have taken part in the program before, as has interpreter Lena Zaichenko. Host families are found in the north of the county as far as the Teeswater area and to the south in Exeter, Dashwood and Hensall. While here, their bodies will heal from the effects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Local dentists also provide free dental service to the children, something they lack back home. The children will also have fun, including a trip to Canada's Wonderland. A July 9 get together at the Dashwood Community Centre saw the children and their host families celebrate something that doesn't happen in Belarus — Halloween. Costumes included princesses, witches, angels and the king of rock 'n' roll himself. The event was sponsored by the Dashwood and Area Optimists and included dinner, games and prizes. Helen Pratt told the Times -Advocate she is without a doctor after hearing rumours Dr. Helen Frye, who took on Dr. Steciuk's patients, is not seeing patients. Pratt said when she phoned the doctor's office, all she got was an answering machine and when she phoned the hospital she was told Dr. Frye was not available. "They never gave me any indication of what hap- pened," Pratt said. Maureen Cole, clinical site leader of South Huron Hospital, would not confirm Dr. Frye has resigned. She said negotiations are taking place and a schedule is being worked on. Acting CEO Mike Boucher was not available for com- ment. Pratt said she was told she would have to use the medical services at the clinic while Dr. Frye is not avail- able, where a maximum of 30 patients a day will be seen. When Pratt phoned the medical clinic Monday and said she was a patient of Dr. Frye's, she was told the physician was not seeing patients and to call back at the end of the week when a resolution was expected. Former resident receives citation By Scott Nixon TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF WINDSOR — Dean Pfaff does- n't feel like a hero, even though the for- mer Huron Park resident was presented with a Commissioner's Citation for Bravery in May. Pfaff, 31, a constable with the Tecumseh OPP, received a call Feb. 16 to respond to a struc- tural fire. While the fire was out of Pfaff's jurisdiction, he went to the scene anyway. When he arrived, he saw three men standing on the roof of the burning home. The men told Pfaff there was a ladder in the barn, but when he went to look for it he couldn't find it. He returned to the fire and helped a 16 - See PARKING page 2 Pfaff T'S and TANKS Buy 2 Get 1 FREE Mens & Womens ALL SHORTS 2 for 1 Mens & Womens GOLF SHIRTS Buy 1 Get 1iid i/i Price Mens & Womens WOVEN BUTTON•UP SHIRTS 25% Off & NO TAX Mens & Womens WOMENS FITNESS '/2 Price ALL HATS Buy 2 Get 1 FREE
