DASHWOOD — Fifteen children
from the Gomel region of Belarus
are spending six weeks in Huron
County in the seventh year of
Huron County for Children of
Chernobyl.
The 15 children and their inter-
preter arrived June 20 and stay
until Aug. 1. Six children have
taken part in the program before,
as has interpreter Lena Zaichenko.
Host families are found in the north
of the county as far as the
Teeswater area and to the south in
Exeter, Dashwood and Hensall.
While here, their bodies will heal
from the effects of the 1986
Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Local
dentists also provide free dental
service to the children, something
they lack back home.
The children will also have fun,
including a trip to Canada's
Wonderland.
A July 9 get together at the
Dashwood Community Centre saw
the children and their host families
celebrate something that doesn't
happen in Belarus — Halloween.
Costumes included princesses,
witches, angels and the king of rock
'n' roll himself.
The event was sponsored by the
Dashwood and Area Optimists and
included dinner, games and prizes.
Locally, the Long family of Hensall
is hosting Liuba Kondak for the
third summer

Dr. Frye not
seeing patients
By Mary Simmons

EXETER — After the retirement of Dr. Bill Steciuk,
patients thought their medical needs would be taken
care of by a replacement, but according to at least one
patient, no doctor is available.
Helen Pratt told the Times -Advocate she is without a
doctor after hearing rumours Dr. Helen Frye, who took
on Dr. Steciuk's patients, is not seeing patients.
Pratt said when she phoned the doctor's office, all she
got was an answering machine and when she phoned
the hospital she was told Dr. Frye was not available.
"They never gave me any indication of what hap-
pened," Pratt said.
Maureen Cole, clinical site leader of South Huron
Hospital, would not confirm Dr. Frye has resigned. She
said negotiations are taking place and a schedule is
being worked on.
Acting CEO Mike Boucher was not available for com-
ment.
Pratt said she was told she would have to use the
medical services at the clinic while Dr. Frye is not avail-
able, where a maximum of 30 patients a day will be
seen.
When Pratt phoned the medical clinic Monday and
said she was a patient of Dr. Frye's, she was told the
physician was not seeing patients and to call back at
the end of the week when a resolution was expected.

The men told
