Painting of Hensall railway station
to be auctioned on Nov 6 in Hensall

Auction at the Hensall Community Centre Nov. 6.

HENSALL — An original
painting by London
artist Maurice Siverns
will be offered at the
Hensall United Church
Christmas Fantasy
Auction Nov. 6.
`Hensall Station,'
painted in 1976, is of
historical interest
because of its subject
matter, the railway
building which ceased to
exist within a year of
Siverns completing the
painting.
Local historians
believe the structure
was torn down, but a
notation on the back of
the painting states the
station was destroyed by
fire in 1977.
Siverns began his pro-
fessional art career in
the early 1970s and
exhibited at Stratford's
'Art in the Park' for
many years. His back-
ground in education
later proved invaluable
for assisting talented
beginners to exhibit
their art at London't
Springbank Park.
The inspiration for the
painting arose from
repeated viewings of the
scene, which always
attracted Siverns on his
way to his summer cot-
tage on Lake Huron.

store
ZURICH — Staff of the Zurich
Foodland Grocery Store contacted
Huron OPP June 30 at approximately
8:45 a.m. over the theft of cigarettes.
According to police, at approximately
8:30 a.m. someone entered the grocery
store while staff was busy towards the
rear of the building. The lone male then
grabbed an armful of cigarette cartons
from a display near the front. He fled
the store to a waiting vehicle.
The vehicle, similar to a medium size
blue Chev Astro van, left the scene at a
high rate of speed, westbound on Main
Street. A citizen attempted to follow the
thief, but was almost struck by the dri-
ver when the person drove into a dead
end street and reversed back towards
them. The driver was last seen heading
southbound on Bronson Line in South
Huron.
The thief is described as a white male
in his late -30s to mid-40s, of average
height with short brown hair .
Huron OPP is continuing their investi-
gation. If you can help solved this crime,
call the local OPP or contact Crime
Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477(TIPS).
