Romance at the Blyth Festival
BLYTH — When it
comes to romance there
are three approaches.
Fall in love at first sight,
flat out pursuit, and good
old fashioned romantic
courtship.
This summer at the
Blyth Festival, the women
on stage have their heart-
strings pulled by men that
have marriage and
romance in mind — or so
they say.
In her most outrageous
role ever, Janet Amos por-
trays Giselle, a 50 -some-
thing widow who falls
instantly in love with a hot
young lover and tries to
hide the romance from
her own adult off -spring.
The sizzling summer
romance 'Heat Wave' by
Michel Marc Bouchard is
sure to ignite the audi-
ence.
And her widowed next
door neighbour (played by
the much -loved Jerry
Franken) who has always
held a soft spot for Giselle,
finds romance with a
woman who knows just
what she wants and is
going to get it.
In the meantime, on the
set of `Salt -Water Moon,'
the lovely Mary Snow is all
set to marry Jerome, the
most eligible bachelor in
town, when up the road
walks the passionate,
rough hewn Jacob who is
determined to win Mary
back, the old fashioned
way. The only challenge is
that he broke her heart a
year earlier when he left
for Toronto without even
saying goodbye.
`Salt -Water Moon' by
David French is a
Canadian classic that won
the 1985 Canadian
Authors Association
Literary Award.
Starring Charlotte
Gowdy and Darren Keay,
it plays at the Blyth
Festival from July 14 to
Aug. 21.
'Heat Wave' is playing at
the Blyth Festival from
July 7 to Aug. 20.

There is some evidence that supplementing with
three B -vitamins can lessen the chance of
adverse effects occurring when a person
undergoes angioplasty la procedure done to
widen arteries to increase blood flowl. The vitamins are folic acid 11
mgl, vitamin B-1210.4 mg) and vitamin B-6110 mgl. The vitamin
combination is to be taken daily for at least six months after the
angioplasty.
With all the great general anesthetics we have for surgery today, it's
hard to believe that at one time, there was only alcohol and opium
to get the patient through the surgery. In 1846 and 1847, ether and
chloroform were introduced and greatly improved surgical
outcomes for patients.
When buying calcium supplements, read the labels carefully. Some
labels read "contains 1250 mg of calcium carbonate". What that
means is 500 mg of actual calcium. Different types of calcium
products have different amounts of calcium per dose. For example
calcium gluconate 650 mg actually contains only 65 mg per tablet.
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and is excreted from the body
in about 12 hours. It's better to take vitamin C doses twice daily for
more consistent blood levels.
