The business held its grand open- ing June 26, which included a fundraiser barbecue for the Dashwood and Area Optimist Club, door prizes, samples, specials and fun for the kids. Hayter's Turkey Farms president Tom Hayter said the business now has about 35,000 sq. ft., which includes the 20,000 sq. ft. expansion that occurred over the last few years. The addition enhances the business's retail space, gives addi- tional office and storage space and was done for food safety under HACCP requirements. Hayter said the expansion also provides the business with better visibility with new signage, a new parking lot and a better work envi- ronment for the business's more than 40 employees. Construction started in April 2001. He said public response has been positive about the expansion. Hayter's Turkeys has also expand- ed its product line and works with Metzger Meats and Jerry Rader on various products. A test kitchen has been built at Hayter's to expand product development. The business was started in 1948 by Tom Hayter's father Harry Hayter, who passed away early in June. Tom Hayter stressed Hayter's is a family -run operation, with his sister Joanne Maguire working as Hayter's Turkey Products president, his wife Elaine the store manager and several other family members involved.
