volunteers last week with a volunteer appreciation
dinner, including entertainment and door prizes.
About 100 people attended. Given special recognition
was Shirley Luther, pictured right, who has been vol-
unteering at the nursing home since 1968, leading
worship services. Queensway programs director
Carol Gascho, left, presented Luther with a new Bible
and thanked her for her years of service. Luther, of

POLICE BRIEFS
Man dies in
two vehicle crash
SOUTH HURON — An 84 -year-old London man has
died after a two vehicle crash on Dashwood Road
approximately six kilometres west of Exeter.
Investigators have determined a silver Grand Marquis
was westbound on Dashwood Road between Parr Line
and Babylon Line at approximately 11 a.m. June 19
when the driver lost control and slid across the center-
line into the path of a blue Chev Silverado crew cab
eastbound on the same road.
Norman and Betty Beierling of London, the occupants
of the Grand Marquis, were taken to South Huron
Hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to Victoria
South Street Campus in London with serious injuries.
Norman died Sunday night as a result of injuries sus-
tained in the crash. His wife is still listed in critical con-
dition.
Edward VanEsbroeck and his daughter, Michelle, of
South Huron, as well as a family friend, Kaylene
Rundle, of Woodham, were in the pickup truck. They
were also taken to South Huron Hospital where they
have been treated for non -life threatening injuries.
A section of Dashwood Road was closed for four hours
while Technical Traffic Collision Investigators gathered
all information over the cause of the crash.
The crash took place on a straight section of roadway
and speed was not a factor.
The investigation continues.

SOUTH -HURON — On June 14 at approximately 11:15
a.m. OPP received a call of a disturbance on Wellington
Street in Exeter. Officers found three males waiting
across from a residence on the street with one male agi-
tated over a break-in at his residence June 13.
He told police his home on Victoria Street in Centralia
had been broken into sometime during the afternoon or
early evening of June 13 and a Play Station, DVD play-
er, 30 DVD movies and 10 DVD games had been stolen.
He had received a tip that his property might be at a
residence in Exeter. When he arrived he found some of
his stolen property outside the residence door and went
to get help. When he returned two people were getting
into a taxi with the stolen property. Some of the proper-
ty was wrestled away from them before they got away
in the vehicle.
A short time later police located the two people. A citi-
zen who had witnessed them hiding something assisted
the police. More property was located near a vehicle
hidden near the rear.
Officers learned another male was involved in the case
and he was also taken into custody. As a result of the
investigation an 18 -year-old South Huron man has been
charged with break, enter and theft, possession of prop-
erty obtained by crime and breaching probation. A 23 -
year -old Wallacetown man has been charged with pos-
session of stolen property obtained by crime. They will
attend court in Exeter Aug. 26. A 14 -year-old female
from London has also been charged with break, enter
and theft and possession of property obtained by crime.
She will attend youth court in Goderich Aug. 12.
Lakeview Singers set to perform at Queensway
HENSALL - Queensway is blessed
with caring, dedicated volunteers.
This wonderful group of people
were invited to an appreciation sup-
per and evening of music & enter-
tainment with John and Geneva
Heaman Wed., June 16. John
Heaman is not only a talented musi-
cian but also a ventriloquist and
near the end of his show everyone
was introduced to his dummy
Wilbur and to a hilarious display of
ventriloquism.
Shirley Luther of the Salvation
Army was the recipient of a Bible
presentation from Queensway in
recognition of her volunteer work at
Queensway dating from 1968.
Luther leads several worship ser-
vices each year and has observed
many changes over her 36 years of
volunteering.
A trip to Varna Complex on
Father's Day to help Pastor Elly Van
Bergen celebrate her 50th birthday
was a highlight of the week.
Residents, staff and volunteers
enjoyed the music of Bob Heywood,
a concert by Paraguayan harpist
Eduard Klassen, and of course
birthday cake and ice cream.
Pianist Joyce Pepper played a
great repertoire of old-tyme tunes in
the retirement home lounge Friday
evening for the twice monthly
Friendship Friday program. Her
audience sang along to all their old
favourites and expressed the hope
that Pepper would join them again
soon.
A recent event held June 14 and
appreciated by local seniors, resi-
dents and staff was the hearing aide
clinic facilitated by Christine Feige,
hearing aide specialist from Sarnia
Hearing Centres. Feige gave a very
informative presentation and then
provided complimentary basic care
and cleaning of hearing aides for all
those in attendance.
