The South Huron Hospital Association recognized the hospital's long-time
employees June 17 at its 5 I st annual meeting. From left are outgoing hospital
board chairperson Matt Clarke and veteran employees Doris Wragg (30 years),
Nancy Hodgert, Bonnie Neeb and Clara DeVries (all 25 years).Absent is Marg
Inson, who has also been at the hospital for 25 years. Clarke said it was "remark-
able" for employees to stay at the hospital for so long and added,"It can't be
overstated how important you are and how much you are appreciated."

Lots of events in Varna

VARNA - Church service was in Goshen
on Sunday honouring all fathers includ-
ing men who act as father
figures.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen
gave the Welcome and Announcements
followed by the Call to Worship.
Pastor Van Bergen's 50th birthday was
celebrated at the Complex in the after-
noon. This was a benefit concert featur-
ing Bob Heywood and Eduard Klaasen, a
Paraguayan harpist. Pastor Van Bergen's
wish was for absolutely no gifts or cards
in order that all donations go for
HIV/AIDS `Beads of Hope Campaign'.
Church service will be in Goshen on
Sun., June 27. Sun., June 27 is also
Decoration Day at Bayfield Cemetery at 2
p.m.
The church picnic will be July 25 with
the picnic service at the Complex with
guests from the Exeter Community Band.
The Varna UCW dinner and theatre are
on August 26. Dinner will be catered by
the Goshen UCW and on to Grand Bend
Playhouse II to see A Closer Walk With
Patsy Cline. For tickets please call Shirley
Hill at 565-2152.
The Varna church's
annual pork barbecue was
very successful once again
and the committee would like to thank
anyone who helped in any way to make it
so successful.
Deb Rathwell was in the Relay of Life
once again this year in Goderich and she
would like to thank all those whom spon-
sored her. She was with the Carry on
Cloggers and their team raised $2075. All
teams taking part raised over $120,800
and pledges are still coming in.
Note the time change in the Varna
sesquicentennial meeting to be held
Mon., June 28 at 7:30pm. Everyone is
welcome.
The community's thoughts and prayers
are with the Rathwell families now on the
sudden passing of Dawn.

Funeral for former Granton resident

June 16.
The Granton Wesley
United Church was filled
to capacity on Sat., June
19 for the funeral of a
well-known member,
Mary Jones of St. Marys,
formerly of Granton, who
died at St. Marys
Memorial Hospital on
Wed., June 16 in her 84th
year.
Lay Pastor Val Hodgins
officiated. Norman Bilyea
read a eulogy to Mary and
a tribute to her husband
Bill Jones. Cindy Bilyea
sang How
Great Thou
Art accom-
panied by Marlene
French. Interment in the
Granton Cemetery.
Visitation was held at the
C. Haskett and Son
Funeral Home in Lucan.
Sympathy from the
Granton Community is
extended to the family.

GoldenAgers meet in the dark
ZURICH - Zurich
Golden Agers: A meet-
ing to remember as the
group were five hours
without hydro for their
potluck supper. The
entertainers had to play
without the aid of
speakers.
The food was plentiful
and the music provided
by Glenn Deichert on
violin, Jim Love on gui-
tar, Ralph Stevenson
played the spoons.
Mona played the xylo-
phone, Marjorie Love
the drum, Lottie
Grenier the washboard
and Gwen McKellar the
tambourine. Birthdays
and anniversaries were
noted. Pepper is played
every Friday. The next won the 50/50 draw.

special "Tire Recycling Day" from 9:00 a.m. to
