After Exeter took a 1-0 lead, the Orioles came back to tie the game, but it was all they would get off Braves pitcher Chad Dalrymple, who threw a no-hitter. Dalrymple also aided his cause with a home - run. Other hits came off the bats of Gavin Snow with a triple and two from Chris Mcdonald as well as a couple from Larry Lewis. The Braves swept an important pair of games the previous weekend, with two wins against the Zurich Rangers, by 12-6 and 3-0 scores. Pigeon racing LUCAN — Now that May is behind us, there are those who feel the entire month should have been cancelled. Among them are pigeon racers. Almost every race the birds had to contend with the rain and the cold. Speeds were below nor- mal. But now that June is here, everyone, pigeons included, is smiling again. A comfortable tempera- ture and a south-east breeze, a tailwind, recently made for two interesting races. The "long" birds were released at St. Jerome, Que, a distance of 651 kilometres from Exeter at 6:15 a.m. The top 11 positions were all claimed by Lucan flyers. Brendan Cunningham (also known as Irish - ham) clocked his first and winning pigeon at 14:38 p.m. It took this pigeon eight hours and 23 minutes to fly from St. Jerome back to its home loft in Lucan. Its official speed was 1,298 meters/minute. Norm Hardy clocked five racers within the next five minutes. They took positions two, three, four, five and seven. Brother Jack Hardy won positions nine and 10. Jim Whitworth from the Forest area also placed very well. Al de Haan had two birds that placed in the middle of the score sheet. Todd McPherson found his birds lower on the score sheet than usual. Some claim that his nervousness about his imminent wedding rubbed off on his birds. On the same day the "short" birds were released from Brockville, Ont., a distance of 524 kilometres from Arkona, where junior member Jus Veens managed to clock the winner; and take second place as well. Respective speeds were 1,310 and 1,303 meters/minute. Whitworth's Cedar Loft captured positions three and 11. Norm Hardy took posi- tions four and five; broth- er Jack again a length behind, but good for positions seven and 12. Brendan Cunningham placed sixth and thir- teenth. Exeter's Al de Haan was up in the clouds over winning posi- tions nine and ten. And, again, Todd McPherson's birds stayed the course, but lagged a bit.
