Literary award
Amanda Hutchinson, a Grade 8 student at Biddulph
Central School, was a recent recipient of a Lawson
Literary Award. The awards were established in
1978 by Colonel Lawson in the name of his father,
The Honourable Ray Lawson, Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario from 1946-1952.The program is open to
Grade 7 and 8 students, and encourages entrants to
research and write about topics of interest and rele-
vance to them as young Canadians. Hutchinson chose
the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as her topic.
Lawson Award winners are selected from school
entries by judging panels representing the various
Thames Valley families of schools, which consist of a
secondary school and its feeder elementary schools.
On June 8, Hutchinson and 16 award winners
received a cheque for $100, a certificate, an award
plaque, and a bound copy of all Lawson Award win-
ning entries. (photo/submitted)
