Crokinole cham
VARNA — Three mem-
bers of the Varna
Crokinole club participat-
ed at the World Crokinole
Championship June 5 at
Varna.
Positions in the initial
round robin are deter-
mined by luck of the
draw.
Jason Beierling had the
toughest group of oppo-
nents anyone could face
during this round as five
top players met him head
on.
He played well but was
unable to gain enough
points to advance to the
playoff round of 16.
Raymond Beierling
fared much better in the
first round by finishing
fourth overall in this
round.
He faced a tough group
of eight players in the sec-
ond round and finished
third in this group, just
missing the top two posi-
tions required to go on to
the fmals.
Joe Fulop faced an easi-
er first round qualifying
group and was first over-
all in the opening round.
He was able to squeeze
into top place in his first
round of eight players,
where one less point
would have eliminated
him from further competi-
tion.
He finished second in a
round robin of the four
top players but was able
to pull out a victory over
his opponent Brian Cook
of Owen Sound in the fmal
round, winning 6-0 and 5-
3.
This is Fulop's third vic-
tory in this tournament in
the last four years.
WOSSAA bronze
EXETER — The senior girls soccer team won the
bronze medal at WOSSAA May 27.
The girls defeated St. Mary's (Perth) 1 - 0 on a goal by
Ashley Ralph in a shootout to advance to the WOSSAA
tournament.
In their first game, the girls lost 2 - 0 to St. Mary's
(Woodstock) and moved on to the bronze medal match.
Sarah Watson, the back-up goalkeeper who had a
sprained finger, played an amazing game, according to
coach Scott Osborne.
In the second game, the girls defeated Stratford
Central 4-1 on goals by Michele Weber, Ashley Ralph,
Leanne Cronyn, and Susie McCann.
Ralph, Cronyn, and McCann scored their goals in a
final shootout.
Once again Watson played extremely well and
acquired a shutout.

Express win two
EXETER — The Exeter
Express resumed their
schedule on the weekend
after a long delay caused
by a pair of rainouts and
were successful in win-
ning two of three games.
Saturday's game against
Strathroy was a seesaw
affair with Strathroy pre-
vailing by a 7-4 score.
Strathroy were able to
score runs in the first,
third and fourth innings
but the Express rallied
with three runs in the fifth
on a triple by Vic Oliveria
and a single by Marty
Merner.
Strathroy then rallied for
four runs in the sixth to
take the lead and secure
the win.
Dan Masse pitched the
first five innings striking
out four, walking one and
allowing three hits and
four runs.
Exeter's defence com-
mitted three errors and
the offence consisted of
two hits from Oliveira, and
one each from Merner,
Fairful, Leppington,
McCutcheon and Nick
Regier.
Sunday's games in
Listowel went Exeter's
way as they won the dou-
ble header 3-0 and 5-3.
Derek Masse pitched a
shutout in the first game
allowing four hits while
striking out eight and
walking three.
The game was scoreless
until the seventh when
Exeter rallied for three
runs on only one hit by

2004 tournament game one
Hensall/Exeter 0 @ Mitchell 15
Comments: Hensall/Exeter
played a little nervous against a
strong 'rep' team from Mitchell.
After first two innings, we set-
tled down and held Mitchell to
four runs over three innings.
Unfortunately, we could not get
our bats going.
June 5: Game two
Hensall/Exeter 3 @ New
Hamburg 14
Hensall/Exeter runs: Ashley
Renning, Justine Pfaff, Claire
Tuckey. Comments: Held an
extremely strong New Hamburg
team to only three runs over the
first two innings and then had
one bad inning allowing 11
runs. Scored three runs against
what would appear to be some
of the strongest pitching in rural
Ontario.
June 5: Game three
Hensall/Exeter 13 @ Zurich 14
Hensall/Exeter runs: Annick
Maes, Janelle Clarke (2),
Amanda Scheider, Claire

forth game, with Zurich winning
in the bottom of the fifth inning.
A great character building
weekend which exposed our
team to a much higher level of
competition. Excellent pitching
was provided by Janelle Clarke,
