South Huron sent three teams and one individual to OFSAA competition, a feat it has never done before. The Panthers were represented at OFSAA by their field hockey team which claimed silver at the tournament which was hosted by South Huron The girls hockey team which won WOSSAA gold and a bronze at OFSAA and the boys curling team which also was at OFSAA after taking the gold at WOSSAA. Also at OFSAA was Justine Clarke, who was competing in the 80 metre hurdles Friday. Special awards were presented to coaches Laura Hern and Mandy Hastie who are retiring from coaching. Other significant performances for the year were the junior girls basketball team who were the Huron champions, as were the junior boys and the senior girls soccer team which claimed a bronze at WOSSAA. With 276 athletes making up 27 teams, O'Rourke said there were excellent indi- vidual and team efforts throughout the season. He also thanked the coaches, adminis- tration and Avon Maitland school board for the support the teams receive. It was presented to Amber Preszcator, Jessica Bray and Everette Dionne. The Mike Prendergast memorial award is presented to the senior basketball players who combine excellence in acad- emics and basketball and was won by Jessica Bray. Winning the Jeremy Truemner award was Fragiskos Fragiskatos. The award is in memory of Jeremy Truemner who died June 10, 1995 and is awarded to the senior boy's soccer player for skill, lead- ership, sportsmanship and integrity. Receiving the Jamie Rasenberg award for the junior boy soccer player who exhibits skill, leadership, integrity and dedication was Brent Johns. Major Individual Awards: Paw Award: The Paw award is won by a female and male who are taking a physical education course, who play at least two major sports and who demon- strate skill, leadership, academic achievement and are good, valuable team members. It was won by Ryan Knee and Susie McCann Lindsay Muller and Jamie Bibby were the winners of the Panthers Sportsmanship award, presented to the graduating male and female athletes who best exemplify the true spirit of sportsmanship.
