HENSALL — The Kinsmen Club of Hensall and
District has once again lived up to its motto of "sup-
porting the community's greatest needs." The club's
interest in the Habitat for Humanity project in Huron
County has been strong ever since the idea was con-
ceived last fall.
The Kinsmen Club of Hensall sent representatives
from their club to each of the initial Habitat meetings
held last fall. Each time, club members expressed
their willingness to be involved and to help.
That commitment took the form of a financial contri-
bution that was approved at the May meeting.
President Steve Knight welcomed Chuck Mallette
from Habitat for Humanity Huron County to speak at
the May Kin meeting.
An overview of the Habitat concept and the project
was presented to the group, followed by a question
period. Subsequently, club discussion took place and a
motion was passed approving a contribution to the
fledgling project in the amount of $1,500. Treasurer
Marvin Taylor will present the cheque, which repre-
sents a major contribution to the effort to establish
more affordable housing in Huron County.
Paul Dyck, chairperson of the Habitat Huron County
project steering committee was delighted. "This repre-
sents a major shot in the arm for us and enforces our
belief in the willingness of Huron County people and
organizations to get involved in Habitat," Dyck stated.
The goal is to establish a solid, long-term organiza-
tion with an impact on Huron County housing needs
that will have long-term sustainability.
Habitat for Humanity Huron County is a non-profit,
independent housing program dedicated to the elimi-
nation of poverty housing by building in partnership
with families in need.
The Kinsmen Club of Hensall has a long history in
the area of providing funding, human resources, ideas
and energy which serve to make the community a bet-
ter place to live. The club works hard to ensure the
ideals of Kin Canada are met.
The mission statement of the organization states
that "Kin Canada is a dynamic volunteer organization
enriching our communities through service while
embracing national pride, positive values, personal
development and lasting friendships."
Kin Canada is an all -Canadian service organization
made up of active community volunteers. Working
together, members are enhancing the quality of life in
their communities by promoting service, fellowship,
positive values and national pride.
Kin clubs support cystic fibrosis (CF) research and
fund local projects across the country.
