"We are looking for school groups, church groups, sports teams, ser- vice clubs, etc., that would like to work with us to make this a success," Haggerty said. "In the past 12 months our show has raised over $540,000 for charity. We are very proud of that." Haggerty said in many communities the show raises between $5,000 and $10,000 for local groups. "This is a win/win/win situation," Haggerty said. "The local groups help to create interest which increases our attendance and we donate thousands of dollars back to these groups which makes our sponsors happy." Haggerty said many communities have made the magic show an annual event. He said the show itself is a grand illusion, including levitation and making girls appear from slot machines. "We will move about eight tonnes of equipment to the arena for our shows," Haggerty said. "The illusions are on a grand scale. We use Siberian Tigers and African Lions. We change Ladies into Tigers and make the cats appear. Our show is very similar to a Siegfried and Roy Show." Haggerty said he became involved in magic when he was introduced to his first card trick at the age of 12 in his hometown of Dunnville, Ont. Intrigued and fascinated, he imme- diately began researching, studying and performing the art of magic. By the age of 25, Haggerty combined his love of animals with his love of magic and added his first exotic cat to his show. From that point, he has raised several exotic cats from infancy includ- ing tigers, lions, jaguars and cougars and featured them as part of the magi- cal experience in his shows. "All of my cats have been bottle-fed as small cubs and trained by me person- ally. The exotic cats are considered members of the family and have added a tremendous creative ele- ment to the show," Haggerty said. Haggerty expanded the use of animals in his show when he became the only illusionist in Canada to vanish a 6,000 -pound ele- phant in front of hundreds of audiences in Niagara Falls, Ont. in the early 1990s. Recently, Haggerty and his cats were featured on the "Working Animals" series on the Discovery Channel where his exper- tise as an illusionist work- ing with exotic cats was the focus of the documen- tary. Haggerty has performed at the Air Canada Centre, the Edmonton Oilers All- Star Game, the Garden Brothers Circus, the Opening of the West Edmonton Mall, and head- lined at both the Canadian Central Exhibition in Ottawa and the Western Fair in London. He also headlines in the Sheraton on the Falls Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ont. His list of corporate clients includes Oracle, Bell Mobility, Honda, Pillsbury, Siemens and Livingston to name a few. He has worked with charities such as the Sunshine Foundation, Camp Trillium, Crime Stoppers, as well as numerous Lions, Kinsmen and Rotary Clubs to fundraise for worthwhile causes. He performs in more than 500 elementary schools in Ontario per year promoting the art of magic and emphasizing the importance of following your dreams. The Claude Haggerty Magic Show will be appearing at the South Huron Recreation Centre July 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. It is sponsored by Hansen's Your Independent Grocer. Any local groups inter- ested in receiving a por- tion of ticket sales may contact Haggerty at magic- man@allsteam.net. Iceculture working with NASA HENSALL - What hap- pens when ice forms on the NASA space shuttle and breaks off during the launch ? NASA intends to find out and Iceculture, Inc. from Hensall is help- ing them do just that. "At launch," says Matthew Melis, an aero- space engineer at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio, "the shuttle experiences ice forming on the outside skin caused by cryogenic gas and we need to know exactly what happens if pieces break off and hit the shuttle's skin. We want to find out what damage might be caused to the skin and other com- ponents." Iceculture is producing ice projectiles to precise measurements - the ice must be made with pure water, have no air bubbles and no cracks or scratch- es. It also has to be sup- plied in a number of dif- ferent shapes so accurate tests can be carried out. Iceculture president Ann Bayley points out that the NASA deal is not exactly a high profit project. Clarification A donation by Carlson Wagonlit Ellison Travel to the South Huron medical centre was twice as large as the figure reported in last week's Times -Advocate. In fact, the business is donating $2,000 to the medical centre. Vehicles damaged SOUTH HURON - Over the last few weeks several vehicles have been damaged in the Huron Park area. On May 14 at 7:30 a.m. Goderich Aircraft on Algonquin Drive in Huron Park contacted OPP over property damage. Sometime through the night a person shattered a window of a company truck by using a pro- jectile fired from a weapon. On May 13th another report was received from a citi- zen when two vehicles on Columbia Drive were dam- aged while they sat in the driveway. Sometime that night a black 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix and a red 1997 Honda Civic had either a pellet or BB shot at the windows. The passenger side window was shot out of the Pontiac while the rear hatchback was shattered in the Honda. "But the fact we are help- ing NASA is pretty excit- ing. „ The ice research project is not directly related to the Columbia disaster in 2003 when the Challenger was destroyed on re-entry to the Earth's atmosphere. In this case, a piece of foam insulation is believed to have torn a hole in the shuttle's wing during the launch and the problem occurred on the return journey. The projectiles are small, and are cubed and oblong shapes. "Fortunately, we have the technology to be able to produce exactly what NASA wants" Bayley said. "We've only been doing this for three weeks," she added, "and already we have been working with research engineers at the NASA Glenn Research 26 Legal Notices NOTICE TO CREDITORS In the Estate of EDWARD JOSEPH GLAVIN Late of the Municipality of South Huron, in the County of Huron, who died on or about the 8th day of March, 2004. "NASA found us through our Web site and initially asked for ice samples to be sent to Cleveland for testing. These turned out to be ideal for their pur- poses," Bayley said. Matthew Melis confirms the research work is important and although the tests are still in the preliminary stage, other research centers involved in the program will be in contact with Iceculture soon.
