EXETER — May 17 the South Huron
junior boys rugby team played a good
game and defeated Madill 12-5.
Mitch Iredale and Delaney Siren scored
the tries and Justin Knee added a con-
vert.
The senior boys also played well but
lost 17-0 to a very good Madill team.
Coach Terry O'Rourke said the seniors
should be commended for working hard
right through to the end of the game.
The girls rugby team put out a gutsy
effort considering their inexperience and
the fact a number of players were playing
out of position as a result of injuries.
The team stayed even for most of the
game but unfortunately lost 5-0 on a try
on the last play of the game.
Julie Prout, Denise Ritchie and Erica
MacTavish each played particularly well.
May 19 the senior boys lost to a very
good on the day Northwestern team.
South Huron was missing a few key
bodies, but the boys who played all put
forth a very good effort. The seniors fin-
ished the season in fourth place.
The juniors boys played an excellent
game defeating Northwestern 36-0.
Knee scored three tries, Justin Cann
scored one convert and Iredale kicked
two converts. A great effort by the junior
boys who finished in first place.
The girls also defeated Northwestern,
12-10. Julie Prout scored two tries and
Cann reaches for
suffered a broken collarbone and
MacTavish kicked a convert.
Ashley Roger and her posse of forwards
all played well and are commended for
their hard work from coach O'Rourke.
The girls finished in fourth place as well
and were at the Huron Perth final in
Madill Friday.
Considering the number of injuries, the
girls put in a tremendous effort.
They lost their first game to number
one ranked St. Mikes 15-0.
The team played tremendous defence
and gave it a great go against a bigger,
faster team.
In the bronze medal game, the girls
played even better.
They took a 5-0 lead on one of the sin-
gle best efforts of the year by Julie Bibby
who ran through 10 people from 40
metres out to score the try.
Unfortunately Madill scored a try on the
last play of the game, in extra time, and
then kicked the convert for a 7-5 victory.
Ritchie, Ashley Roger, MacTavish and
Sabrina Brand all played inspired rugby
on the day.
The forwards played exceptionally well
and everyone else exceeded their abilities
on the day.
All in all a great effort by a great bunch
of girls from coach O'Rourke.
The boys teams were at Northwestern
for Huron Perth Tuesday.

tory.
