The housecleaning of the church is Group U: kitchen, Group C: sanctu- ary, Group W: basement. The Strawberry Supper is Sun., June 13 and the cookbooks will be ready then too. The Huron -Perth World Outreach has arranged a face-to-face meeting with a young man from Tanzania. Mr. Bita will be at Thames Road-Elimville Church for a potluck sup- per on June 7 at 5 p.m. The meeting closed with the UCW Prayer. The lunch committee, Joan Skinner, Anne Kernick, Helen Kadey and Muriel Parsons prepared a deli- cious dessert, ice cream and beverage for lunch which brought a very interesting meeting to a close. The roll call for the June meeting will be a plant exchange. Church Service The 12th annual Conference Sunday, com- munity of churches United In Faith church service was held on Sunday morn- ing. Before the service commenced there was an orchestral prelude consist- ing of pianist Jean Hodgert, violinists Cliff Jaques, Gordon Johnson and BM Rohde, guitarists Doug Stephen and Doris Spence, lead vocalist Doris Spence, and Harry Jeffery playing banjo. Spence led everyone in singing quite a number of sacred hymns. Judith Parker of Thames Road Elimville UC gave the welcome, announce- ments and led in the call to worship. Everyone sang Though Ancient Walls. ROAD NEWS Wednesday, May 19, 2004 Exeter Times—Advocate 11 Sisters in Spirit: UCW celebrates on June 7 By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD -The May meeting of the UCW was held on Tuesday evening with 33 women and one guest present. The meeting table had an orange - coloured THAMES cloth with a stuffed clown on a park bench, a bouquet of tulips, a beautiful amaryllis and a lovely vase filled with cut flowers. The leadership develop- ment committee was in charge of the meeting. Sharon Lynn welcomed everyone and read 'Who is the Greatest?' and from Mark 9:33-37. The theme 'A Leadership Role' and 'A Portrait of a Leader' was given by Virginia Warwick. A skit, Heavenly Leadership, as given by Margaret Stewart as Amy Williams and Kathy Bray as Liz. A reading `Bless the Leader' was given by Lynn. Lynn introduced Brett Warwick who won his speech as 'His Leadership' and he attended Youth London Camps Canada YLCC. (Warwick won with his speech in Grade 7-8 divi- sion at Usborne Central School). Bray thanked Warwick and presented him with a gift. He Leadeth Me was sung. Virginia Warwick spoke about InterAction and asked the women, "In you life who has been an influence on you?" All gave a lot of different answers: mothers, par- ents, Sunday school teach- ers and so on. Rev. Marilyn Carter spoke on `Walking Along the Path.' Warwick and Bray received the offering with prayer by Lynn. 'A Chinese Philosopher' was read by Warwick. A read- ing, `Idea Killer' was given by Bray. Stewart gave a reading entitled `About Mothers'. Lynn and Doris Elford sang Mother accompanied by pianist Jean Hodgert. Stewart read 'The Shoes That Grandma Wore'. Judith Parker welcomed everyone and gave her opening thought, 'A Hebrew Saying.' The women all repeated the UCW Purpose. Beatrice Dawson took the roll call which was answered with: A person from the Bible using the first initial of your name. The 16 - member choir sang There's Something Special (words and music by Gloria Roe), under the director Sharon Lynn with pianist Donna McBeath and organist Beth Cooper. Psalm 85 was read by Joan Daynard of Hibbert UC. Allan Slater told the chil- dren a story. Second Scripture was read by Allan Slater: John 14:23- 29. George Burgin of Kirkton UC introduced guest speaker Allan Slater, member of the Christian Peacemakers Team, who has been to Iraq and is going to visit again. He was thanked by David Wheeler of Woodham UC. The choir sang No Man Is An Island while the offering was received by greeters Dorothy Rollings, Madalene Tasko, Sam Skinner and Elmer Powe of Centralia UC. The offer- ing is going to support Christian Peacemakers Team, Camp Menesetung and Camp Bimini. Dedication of the offer- ing by Helen Shute of Kirkton UC and Shute also led in the prayers for the Light of Peace responsive- ly. The congregation sang Till We Meet Again. Bruce Delbridge of Thames Road Elimville UC led in the Prayer for Peace also the benediction and grace. The closing chorus Go Now In Peace was sung. Everyone went down- stairs where the steering committee had lunch set out. The committee is comprised of Donna Smith, Gwen Christie, Brenda Hern, Helen Shute, Sylvia Wheeler and Judith Parker. Thanks to the women who brought lunch. It was a wonderful service. Personals In last week's news, I omitted the name of the Toornstra family; along with the Duncan, Willis and Richardson families that attended the baptism of Kinsley Carisa Richardson, daughter of Brian and Carisa Richardson. Sympathy Sympathy is extended to Grace Pym and family on the passing of her brother, Mervyn Wilbert Lobb of Clinton and also to Sharon (who is his niece) and Bob Pavkeje and family.
