SHANNON BAER
Shannon Baer has had four memorable years
at South Huron.
She has been actively involved with the school
and the community. She has helped coach
ringette with the E.D.R.A. for six seasons and
this year assisted with two teams. Shannon is
also a Prefect, Peer mentor, and Peer tutor. She
has been involved with South Huron's Relay for
Life, in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.
She is the co -event chairperson for the event,
being held May 28-29 at SHDHS.
Every year Shannon has also excelled acade-
mically. She has been on the honour role all
four years and has participated in many Math
contests.
She has placed well on these including being
in the top 25 per cent of Canada in grades nine
and 11. Shannon also placed second in the
OBEA accounting contest in Grade 11. In her
high school career, she has been actively
involved outside of school as well, including
playing hockey in grades nine and 10 and tutor-
ing. For the past two years she has been work-
ing part time at Shoppers Drug Mart in Exeter.
This fall, Shannon is looking forward to
attending the University of Guelph and taking
Child, Youth, and Family Studies. She hopes to
pursue a career working with children and
their families. Shannon is the daughter of
proud parents Kevin and Mary Jean Baer of
Exeter.
DENISE RITCHIE
Denise Ritchie has enjoyed her five years at South
Huron District High School.
Over the years Denise has participated actively in the
athletics program the school has to offer. She was a
member of the basketball team for four years and
received the Most Valuable Player award along with the
Most Valuable Defense Award. Denise also competed at
the WOSSA level in track and on the girls hockey team.
She had continued success in rugby, participating in both
the regular season 7's and 10's teams. She was recog-
nized as the Silver Fern Award winner for the regular
season and received the Most Valuable Player Award in
a 10's tournament.
Along with playing rugby in school Denise was a mem-
ber of the South Western Ontario Rugby Union under 19
team that attended the Ontario Summer Games in 2004.
In addition to being an active member of the high school
sports program Denise is involved in the ringette associa-
tion, competing at both the Regional, Provincial and
National levels, leading to a bronze medal at the 2004
Ontario Winter Games. Her love for playing the game has
led her to pass on her passion to future participants
through coaching. She was an assistant coach for the
Exeter White Petite team who were Huron Perth
Champions and Regional finalists.
Denise was also involved with the high school commu-
nity outside of sports and has been involved with the for-
mal committee, participating in Relay for Life, and is a
Prefect member. Next year Denise will be continuing her
love of athletics studying Physical Education at Brock
University. Denise is the proud daughter of Paul and
Julie Ritchie from Hensall.
Maegan Kipfer has made the most of her four years at South Huron. She has been
actively involved in all aspects of school life ranging from athletics and extracurricular
activities to academics.
For the past two years, she has held the position of junior and senior treasurer on stu-
dent council. She has also been a part of OSAID and the peer tutoring program. This
year, Maegan became involved in the arts by looking after the public relations for the
school play, "The Farm Show."
In terms of athletics, she was a member of the curling team in Grade nine, and went
on to be a part of the rugby and badminton teams as well.
In Grade 11, Maegan was honoured to be one of the two to represent SHDHS in a
group of only 600 students from across Canada to attend the Forum for Young
Canadians, which is an annual week-long conference in Ottawa educating students
about the complex procedures and operations of the Canadian government.
Maegan has excelled academically throughout her four years having been on the hon-
our roll every year, while also receiving numerous top subject awards including Grade
11 math and accounting.
This year, Maegan is taking an active role in the organization of South Huron's Relay
for Life for the Canadian Cancer Society. She is
contributing to this great cause by holding the
position of finance chairperson for the event, tak-
ing place May 28-29.
Outside of school, Maegan has been a competi-
tor at Grand Bend Speedway racing sprint cars
and mini trucks since 1998. She has also held a
part-time job at Tim Hortons in Grand Bend for
almost three years.
Maegan is following her interest in business as
she hopes to attend the University of Waterloo in
the fall to study accounting, in hopes of eventual-
ly obtaining either her CA or CMA designation.
Maegan is honoured to be nominated for stu-
dent of the year. She attributes a great deal of
her success to the tremendous support she has
received from all her peers and the staff at South
Huron over the years. She wishes all the graduat-
ing students the best of luck in their future
endeavours. Maegan is the proud daughter
of Brian and Jill Kipfer of Dashwood.
AEGAN KIPFER
LINDSAY MULLER
Four years have passed quickly for Lindsay Muller and now
in her final year, she feels honoured to be nominated for stu-
dent of the year.
Lindsay has kept busy since Grade nine participating in no
less than three sports a year. These include field hockey which
resulted in two trips to OFSAA as a silver medalist. She was
MVP in basketball in Grade 10 and is this year's soccer co -cap-
tain. Lindsay has also participated in volleyball and in Grade
11 helped generate interest in forming the tennis team. She
has contributed to the community through her involvement as
a coach in the annual basketball camp for grades six, seven
and eights for the past three years. She has supported Exeter
Centennial Soccer coaching four to five year olds and later
seven year olds. Lindsay has competed in the London District
Youth Soccer League for several years.
Academically, Lindsay has been on the honour roll and has
recently participated on the Envirothon Team. She is this
year's Activities Co-ordinator and temporarily filled in last
year's position during her sister's absence. Lindsay hopes she
has made an impact on raising school spirit by helping co-ordi-
nate events such as Powerwalk, dances and Fun Night. She
has pitched in for two years on the formal "clean up" commit-
tee and had a blast modeling for the school's spring fashion
show. Lindsay was fortunate to attend the Student Council
Leadership Conference this year, and has gained new ideas
and learned many new strategies in getting others involved
and motivated. All her endeavours have helped her to form
many new friendships each year and have provided many
memorable experiences she will always cherish. Overall, she
feels she has had a well rounded experience at SHDHS and
appreciates friends, family, teachers and coaches who have
supported her on this journey.
She plans to attend university and in the future become
involved in missionary work in a Third World country. She is
the daughter of proud parents Matt and Sue Muller.
During the past 4 years at South Huron, Jessica Bray has made many friends and no enemies
she can think of.
She has had an amazing time getting exercise by cruising the halls and expanding her mind.
Jessica has been on the honour roll every year and has won many top subject awards. In addi-
tion, she has been involved in a countless number of activities in and out of school hours,
including Peer Mentors and Prefects.
Since entering high school, Jessica has fallen in love with the arts and drama in particular.
She has won the Drama award for her grade every single year and has also participated in the
school play every year. She has performed in school plays such as "Fame" and "A Midsummer
Night's Dream.' Jessica got her break in Grade 11 as she was cast in the lead female role,
Irene, in the play "The Saga of the Steam Ship Atlantic." This year she is also in the play "The
Farm Show."
Along with being involved with the arts, she has also fallen in love with sports in her school.
Every year since Grade nine, Jessica has been on the school's basketball team and although she
may not have been the best player on the court, she ran her little legs out trying to do her best.
She also has been on the volleyball team every year since Grade nine and has truly enjoyed
playing this sport. Furthermore, Jessica joined the track team and in Grade 10 she won first at
WOSSA for the 100 m sprint and in Grade 11 ended up placing third. Jessica also plays base-
ball every year in the summer.
However, the best thing about Jessica is her fun
loving spirit and zest for life. On occasion Jessica
does not dress like everyone else and has somehow
made it so that plaid and floral match, just as pink
and red do. The most incredible thing about Jessica
is she dresses up for every holiday in an outfit she
has made. No one knows where she can come up
with these ideas or where she finds all the things she
puts into her outfits. My sources tell me, however,
that she has her own personal tickle trunk in her attic.
In the fall, Jessica is planning to go off to Wilfrid
Laurier University, where she hopes to take an array
of courses. As you can tell, she is quite the all around
student and wants to do everything, which is making
it hard for her to decide what she wants to be.
However, she is looking forward to this next step and
is excited to meet new friends, but also keep all
the old ones she has made at South Huron.
