STUDENT OF THE YEAR WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT SOUTH HURON'S FORMAL - SAT. MAY 15
PRESENTATION AT 11 P.M.
Aaron Daters has had a great time in his four
years at South Huron.
He has been an active member of the music
department, playing baritone saxophone in both
junior and senior concert bands, as well as the
red and black jazz bands. This year he also
jammed with the Johnny Thundertones at Battle
of the Bands.
Academically, Aaron has been top male student
in grades nine, 10 and 11. He has also compet-
ed in the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat math con-
tests, each year ranking first in the school and in
the top 25 per cent in Canada. In grades 11 and
12 Aaron also competed at the science Olympics.
Aaron has been a member of OSAID and both
the junior and senior Reach for the Top teams.
Despite his heavy workload, Aaron has always
been able to help his peers with their studies. He
has also worked part time for the last four years,
volunteered his time at the Camp Trillium child-
hood cancer centre, and is working on his black
belt in the martial arts. Aaron will be attending
the University of Western Ontario to study bio-
logical and medical science, and plans to become
a doctor.
Aaron is the son of Brad and Tami and brother
of David of Exeter.
CURTIS PFAFF
During his last four years at South Huron, Curtis Pfaff
has actively participated in both school and community
life. Academically he has managed to achieve honour
roll status for the last three years and received the
Grade 10 drama and Grade 11 manufacturing award
for highest academic achievement . He was named stu-
dent of the month in Grade 11. Curtis has contributed
to his school community life through his membership
in peer mentoring, prefects, and OSAID.
Curtis has participated on various sports teams such
as cross country, basketball, and his favourite, rugby,
where he has obtained the most valuable forward
award twice.
Outside the high school community Curtis has
enjoyed playing minor hockey. He proudly lays claim to
being a member of two teams who were All -Ontario
Champions. Firstly, as the captain of the Stephen
Township Peewees in 2000, and secondly just this year
with the South Huron Midgets. He has achieved his
community volunteer requirements by playing the role
of Hawkeye, the Exeter Hawks Jr. D mascot during the
2002 season, and by being a reader at church.
Curtis has enjoyed all of his past summer jobs and is
presently proud to be employed by Jim and Nancy
Morlock of Pioneer Seeds. Curtis is excited to start a
brick and stone masonry apprenticeship this summer.
He is the proud son of Dennis and Marian and is broth-
er to Lacretia, Henny and Janita. Curtis is honoured to
be nominated by his peers and would like to thank his
teachers and peers for making his life at South Huron
enjoyable.
Benjamin Martin is probably going to graduate high school soon. He liked
the look of that when he typed it.
Benjamin burst onto the scene in the year 2000 as the ubiquitous "Fro Boy,"
roaming the halls with his motley crew "The Pride," performing Song -O -
Grams, playing mind games with passersby in the stairwell and stalking peo-
ple (in a good way). As the years progressed, Benjamin became slightly more
industrious, and possibly as a result, had less hair.
Throughout the years, Benjamin has been involved in a cornucopia of extra-
curricular activities, including Reach For The Top, intramural black tie floor
hockey, two years on student council (including being the every -other -day -
announcement -reading -guy), and a short stint on the debate team before he
discovered he was a pacifist.
Benjamin has been in more bands than lions have feet. He has been in sev-
eral school bands, playing several instruments, and was a founding member
of "The Pride's" hall band. He has participated in Battle of the Bands for the
last three years, with "The Goombas," "The Runs" and his most recent
endeavour, a ska band possessing the moniker "Johnny Thundertones." If you
were in the right place, you also would
have been sure to hear his solo folk rock,
which he performed under the guise of
Benjamin A.M..
Benjamin also did academic things, get-
ting on the honour roll in every year but
Grade nine, and receiving El Spanish
Awardo in Grade 10.
Benjamin is the son of Arnie and Bev
Martin of Exeter and furthermore, they are
proud of him (they said he could write
that).
Benjamin plans to attend Heritage Bible
College in the fall, but be still my babies,
for he plans to return next year to fulfill his
lifelong dream of being the legendary guy
who comes to visit and winks at
everyone as he struts by.

JONATHAN THORNTON
Jonathan Thornton is an active participant in
the school community.
He is a member of the Student Council and
serves as the deputy premier. He is an enthusi-
astic actor, playing major roles in two school
shows. Jonathan was a member of Student
Impact and has helped with Operation
Christmas Child, the Christmas Bureau, and the
30 -Hour Famine. He has been a member of the
Reach for the Top team, and is also a Peer
Tutor.
Jonathan is also involved in the school's music
program. He is a member of the school choir,
the Senior Concert Band and the Black Jazz
Band. He plays clarinet, piano and percussion.
He also teaches those three instruments.
Jonathan has traveled to numerous competi-
tions and will be studying percussion in the fall
at the University of Western Ontario with the
goal of becoming a music teacher.
Throughout his four years at South Huron, Peter Kikkert has been an
active member of the school community.
Peter has been an honour student in all his years at South Huron, and
has won many top subject awards. Among these were English awards,
the Civics award, Canadian history, 20th Century History, World
Religions, Law, and Ancient Civilizations. As a result of his hard work
this year Peter has earned an average over 90 per cent.
In Grade 10 Peter attempted to use his acting skills and earned a sup-
porting role in the school play, "A Midsummer Night's Dream." In Grade
11 he also began to participate in the Debate Club, and earned a spot on
that team in its competition at the University of Western Ontario. Peter
has also been an active participant in the Senior Reach for the Top Team.
In his Grade 11 school year, Peter, as a result of his marks in Civics,
was chosen to travel to Ottawa and attend the Forum for Young
Canadians. During this period he along with other students from across
Canada caught a glimpse of how the government actually works, and how
the democratic process is used in this country.
While he is proud of his extra -curricu-
lar activities, Peter is most honoured to
have been accepted onto Student Council
in his last year of high school. As Prefect
Captain he performs various duties on
the council and leads a dynamic group of
individuals that make up the South
Huron Prefects.
Outside of school Peter holds a valued
position as leader in his Youth Group,
and is involved in his church. After
working at various jobs for three years,
Peter has been hired at The Pinery, and
looks forward to working there for the
summer. Come the new school year
Peter will be off to the University of
Waterloo to study Honours History and
English. Peter is the proud son of
Anne and the late Art Kikkert.
